Brewed by Oranjeboom, Rotterdam (Netherlands) until the early 90’s. After the closing of Oranjeboom production was moved to Breda (Netherlands). This brewery was called Verenigde Bierbrouwerijen Breda-Rotterdam at that time and soon to be renamed to Oranjeboom Brouwerij. The Breda Royal brand however always still mentioned United Dutch Breweries (wich translates to Verenigde Brouwerijen). On closing of Oranjeboom Brouwerij, Breda in 2004 by InBev production was moved to both Bremen and Leuven. Until 2008 when Randalls acquired the licence. Some production is also done at Hofbrauhaus Wolters (under the name Getränkeindustrie Altewiek).

0.33l can. Pours a clear pale yellowish body with a small white lacing lager-head. Aroma is malty with notes of dusty sour hops. Lively carbonation, watery mouthfeeling and quite light-bodied. Tastes light malty and grainy with notes of corn and a mild metallic bitterness in the finish. Not a very good beer.

Bottle from Aldi watching the Swiss whip a couple of undefended free kicks into the back of England’s net. Gold with a low foam. Metallic, sweetcorn, slightly bilious aroma with honeyed and shrubby hints as it warms. Gassy and metallic with a watery bitterness; dominant cream crackers notes, corn on the cob. Some fresh bread. Nasty copper bitterness in the aftertaste; squirty cream and iron filings. Drinkable but deeply flawed.

Can. Pours a clear golden orange with a white head. Nose is sweet and fruity with apple and lemon reminiscent of kitchen cleaners. Medium light body, more apple and lemon with some grassy hops and a hint of grainy malt. More malt comes through towards the drying finish.

Draught@The Rake. Yellowish golden colour, small white head. Aroma is sweet malts, some citrus fruits, other fruits as well as some mild bready notes. Flavour is citrusy, fruity, sweet and flowery hops as well. Actually a really pleasant surprise.

Mes is spot on here. A beer which left me dizzy; confused and scared for the state of British beer. The beer tasted like cleaning fluid and lemon and honey. The honey was incredibly sweet and suffocatingly so. Not what I want on a night out but probably what they serve you in hospital. .

A Mes rate. Bottle at the Rake.
Now this one tested the Rake’s "No crap on tap" claim to within millimeters of acceptability. Corn, stewed apples and some metal. Sweet and pukey. Awful.

Tall can. Light gold. Some head but low retention. Bland cereal grain aromas. Has some harshness in the finish with acetone but tolerable.

Can, in Hong Kong. Well, this can says "Brewed in the EU", which rules out this particular sample coming from Randalls in Guernsey. But it doesn’t get any more specific so it’s tough to know where it comes from. Golden colour but flat. Light malt and mossy hops on the nose. Light hops and hints of bread on the palate. Nothing too offensive.
