COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brekeriet White Label
Brekeriet Cassis is a sour ale mainly fermented with Brettanomyces yeast. Black currant is added during the secondary fermentation and this yeast loves berries which is shown in the fantastic taste of the beer. Brekeriet Cassis is refermented in the bottle which gives a thin layer of yeast at the bottom of the bottle.

[5/5/13] Bottle at Mikkeler & Friends in Copenhagen. Bottle #758. Dark red-purple with a lovely pink head. Lovely aroma with brett, oak and lots of cassis. Great sour flavor with oak, brett, lots of cassis and a slightly lemony finish. Rounded-mouthfeel. Wonderful.

Dark red colour, slightest haze, pink head. Aroma of cassis, berries, hint of wooden stick, light funk. Tart flavour, astringent berry skins, cassis, berries, pips, grape skin, very light malts. Astringent finish, berries and grape skins. Nice!

UPDATED: APR 6, 2014 750ml brown bottle with a foil sealed cap, labelled batch 3 numbered #124/552, poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is cloudy dark ruby red with a China pink head, that reduced quickly leaving no lacing. Aroma of black currants and barnyard. Flavour of black currants and a hint of lemon, sour cherries and vinegar. Taste is light sweet, light bitter and heavy sourness. Palate is light-medium bodied, soft carbonation. A vinous sour beer, with a prominent flavour of black currants. Reminds me of home-made unsweetened black currant juice. Brekeriets Cassis is well brewed and delicious, despite that the flavour is uncomplicated.

>> Wow, beautiful pour of bright clear purple, pink foam. Nose is fresh grapefruit, zesty, ruby red grapefruit. Bright and enticing. Taste is bright raspberry, grapefruit, clean sourness. Palate is refreshing, restrained acid. Definitely the dark horse of our sour tasting.

Offering shared at RateBeer Grand Tasting 2014 (St. Louis, MO). Pours a deep crimson berry hue, a frothy pinkish head dies to a fluffy ring, sticks around and laces well. Deeper glow, darker gentle hazy middle. Aromas are blackberry, currant and lactic acidity. Touches of oak, gentle cobwebs and grass. Some bready maltsn potent sour dark and blackberry like fruit, a bit fuzzy. Initial is medium bodied, richer blackberry and currant, fruity and sour elements mix well. Touches of tannic berryskin, touches of funk and prickly tartness. Backend is a bit fruity, darker with blackberry, a bit seedy and gentle sweetness. Sourness is quite appropriate, on point with tasty play between sour and funk, gentle sweetness. Tasty.

Bottle 75cl at home. Pours slight hazy deep red with a medium pink head that settles quick and leaves a ring on the surface. Aroma is loads and loads of fresh tart berries (currant, blackberry), funky, yeasty and dusty tones in the background. Taste is tart berry, with again sour berries like currants and blackberry. A slight lactic sour tone, cherry-like, backed up with yeast, earth and funk. Ends tart and dry. Medium body, medium carbo with sharp bubbles. Extremely refreshing, very nice display of the fruitiness. Well done!

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. Looks amazing with its pink / red slightly clouded body under a big and really lacing pink white head. Super nose. Not hard to identify the cassis, but it has also something slightly herbal and grassy to it. Mild lemonish but with a sweet berry thing in the back. Nice. Lovely black currant flavor. Not to sour in any way but it has that refreshing little kick it needs. Something that reminds me of cherries also. Soft traces if red wine vinegar and wood. Something you can drink lots and lots of. Long blackcurrants in the lingering dry aftertaste. Really glad I have another bottle of this that I’ll enjoy all by myself! 02.05.2014
