Brekeriet Black Label
Brekeriet Funkstarter is a Scanian saison receiving its special character by fermentation using a mixture of different yeast strains, particularly those of the genus Brettanomyces. The beer is carbonated naturally by fermentation in the bottle and therefore giving a thin layer of yeast on the bottom.

Taste from an 11.2oz bottle. Last pour from the bottle. Totally hazy orange-juice color. Thin off-white head. Loose dots of lace. Kind of a bandaidy aroma, mild smoke, kind of reminds me of a Fantome saison. Moderate sweet taste, light spicy, a bit of a yeasty bite. Interesting stuff, but just alright from my sample.

11.2 oz. bottle from the Party Source. Pours a hazy golden color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma is fruity with soft Brett funk, hay, yeast, and light spices. The flavor has dry Brett funk, mild fruits, grass, mild plus bitterness, it gets a bit thin and watery with only the Brett character coming through after a few drinks.

Aprikosige Brett-Aromen.

33cl bb11/2015, takk pmgep (EU local swap 7.0). Enticing pickled & old citrus zest aroma, funk 2.0 for the gentrified urban masses fashioning itself from its most accessible at first whiff, even venturing an echo of lambic sour grapefruit, to alas then also reveal quite some chlorine/bleach. Taste shows the same cleft between easily likeable dried & pickled old lemon peel and a distinct bath foam soapiness, going into stale lemongrass and turned canned lichee. Highly carbonated at that. Half enjoyable, fully appreciated the bumpy ride.

Bottle. Pours a hazy gold with light white head. Aromas of lemons and light yeast with a bit of white pepper. Sharp flavours of dried lemon, grain and grass. Acidic, dry finish.

Bottle @ The Festival 2014. Hazed golden pour with white foam. Well, it’s certainly funky. A bunch of lemon, yeast, and barnyard. Slight straw and grass as well. The flavor is totally different and totally terrible. Soapy, astringent, and papery. A bunch of chlorine and cardboard as well.

330ml bottle in Copenhagen with expiry 26/11/15 (Batch no 22). Hazy pale golden with a large foamy white head of good duration and soapy lace. Nose has musty barnyard funk with citrus and peppery spices. Flavour is peppery and bitter with a grassy hay hop bitterness. Medium bodied palate with spritely mouthfeel. Overall an excellent Saison with Brett-like elements.
