Brekeriet Black Label
Brekeriet Funkstarter is a Scanian saison receiving its special character by fermentation using a mixture of different yeast strains, particularly those of the genus Brettanomyces. The beer is carbonated naturally by fermentation in the bottle and therefore giving a thin layer of yeast on the bottom.

Aroma is citrus/lemon, spices, strong tartness and a relatively small hint of dark bread. The flavor is fruit/lemon, medium sweetness, malts and a mildly warming finish.

Bottle, nearing BBD. Myrky, dirty orange with stable white airy head. Funky citrus aroma, malt also. Funky, malty flavour with sour orange and something strangely artificial or chemical - I think it might be burnt plastic. Dry and fluffy but this chemical thing just goes on and on...

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, fizzy/frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy medium to dark yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain, corn starch), lightly hoppy (flowers), lightly yeasty (basement), with notes of lemon/lime zest/juice, band aid, concrete. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation, lightly alcoholic. It’s kind of hard to think of this as a saison, but whatever. It’s like a light Bretty blonde ale that’s been mixed with lemon-lime soda...sour-ish and very fizzy and lemon-limey. So it doesn’t come across as particularly serious.

Bottle share during RBESG2015, Day 2, Malmö, Sweden - golden orange coloured pour with a white head. Aroma and taste is citrus fruity with prominent lemon, some orange, bretty, barnyard yeast, grassy and floral nuances, light palate, dry fruity finish.

Bottle to glass. Pour is hazy light orange with a full off white head. Continues to form lily pads of bubbles throughout. Aroma is quite dry and funky with light wood notes and notable acidity. Flavor is aggressive up front with funky acid and wood which gives way to a really nice dry barnyard flavor. This grew on me with every sip. Not quite as balanced as the others i tasted but definitely worth a try.

Bottle split at Beer Ditch, Malmo, 21/08/15. Very lightly hazed golden orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is dank wood, lemon rind, tarte orange, earthy, brett notes. Taste comprises light soap, bitter citric shreds, orange, light brett, funk, barnyard, yeast esters, trace of spice, damp hay. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok.

funky aroma with loads of grassy notes. Brett is a bit overpowering, a bit lacking everything else but pretty thirst quenching and easy saison.
