Brekeriet Black Label
Brekeriet Saison is a Scanian saison receiving its special character by fermentation using a mixture of different yeast strains, particularly those of the genus Brettanomyces. The beer is carbonated naturally by fermentation in the bottle and therefore giving a thin layer of yeast on the bottom.

Big white head. Cloudy orange color. Well balanced aroma of fruit, brettnomyces and stable. Dry woody taste with some brett taste but only tiny acidity. Well fermented and a fine slim body.

Deep hazy orange with white head. Funk, citrus, brett and lovehearts. Sweet, fruity, dry and crisp finish. Overall: Enjoyable, but nothing special,

Bottle @ home. Hazy amber color with a medium white head. Somewhat malt-sweet and mostly grainy aroma, with red berries, grass and some Not what i had expected from a brettanomyces Saison, there are hints of brett and lemon in the background as it gets warmer. Flavor however, is moderate tart and lemon acidic, and also has the same characteristic grainy note as in the aroma but balanced and nicely embedded. Also notes of oak, leather, lacto. Lingering lemon and fruity strawberries.

(Draught@Pikkulintu, sampled 2014-06-07) Clear copper color, smallish but lasting and velvety head. Aroma dominated by strawberries and peacy brett; yet remains balanced and pleasant. In the flavor, brett is strongly dominating, with concentrated berry juice, caramely malt, and slight ashiness. Medium+ body, soft CO2. This could be an ok fruit beer, but there’s nothing to make it a saison.

33cl bb11/2015, takk pmgep (EU local swap 7.0). Earthy aroma of old citrus peel, early winter orchard, some dirt. Taste is very close to Dupont: dry hay, contained yeast esters, only with a late soapy note, maybe from the hops. Lively carbonation, distracting somewhat from the yeast’s flavour character. Finishes dry and to the point. Well done copycat hommage to the real deal, without adding anything in terms of local terroir.
