Cask: Seasonal - Autumn & Winter.
As you’d expect, dark and smooth with a creamy head - and if you have a good palate - Roast Chestnuts!

Cask (gravity dispense), Pigs Ear Beer Festival, December 2006. Dark brown colour - not quite opaque - with a loose tan head. Fair amount of dark chocolate and roasty malt in the aroma. Same elements but less impact on the palate. Dry mouthfeel. Rather light bodied, as the relatively low alcohol content would suggest. A pleasant, easy drinking stout but would benefit from a bit of a boost in body and power. Didn’t get the chestnuts.

Cask at the Blue Boar, Billericay. Pours adark brown with a glowing ruby-red edge and a thin cafe-creme head. It has a sweet dark smokey malt aroma with a little fruitiness. Thin and a little fizzy on the tongue. A dry coffee flavour with a little bitterness leads to an underlying roast chestnut sweetness. I am unsure if any chestnuts are used in the brewing process but there is a definite chestnut aroma that fills the nose after the swallow fading into a bitter, slightly sweet aftertaste. Overall an extremely appetising beer but a little on the thin side.

On cask at white horse, croxtie green. Pours black with thin head. Roast, chocolate, nuts. Very good, my type of beer

Roasty chocolate nose, then a deeply roast and bitter body with coffee notes coming through and a long dry bitter finish. Good but a bit one-dimensional, with little complexity or depth.

An average stout. Roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate, a little vanilla and dark guey syrup. A descent finish. A good session ale. Just nothing spectacular. All round selection tastings with Ang at Hackney Spoon’s Festival on Saturday. We prefered this to the bitter.

Cask in the market porter with knut. Alround rating: Not really a stout or a chestnut beer from what i can see, more of a thin dark bitter.

Cask at the Market Porter. Quite bland, a bit grainy, but not much chestnut flavour here. Rather watery. Needs a bit more of everything, including the chestnuts.

Cask@Pigs Ear BF 06. Quite light as far as stouts go. Lightly roasty and smokey characters, with a fairly light body and short flavour. Pretty ordinary.

Pigs Ear. A gentle stout which barely lifts above a mild. Roasted barley notes. Pleasant enough, but struggling to impress, and possibly lacking in impact.
