Now, this one was nasty! Hazy brown ale with a creamy white head. Burned rubber aroma and dead yeasts in aroma. In mouth, a dryish malt with definitely infected rubber taste, tingly and astringent in mouth. My brother in law actually managed to drink it all, so one extra point for that!

Huge rocky head. Gushy. Deep amber pour underneath the never-ending head. Lots of dried fruit, fruit leather and plums. Figgy and slight spicy as well. Rye and a touch of yeastiness as well. A little bit of light metallic flavour that isn’t all that good. Starts to take on a funky sourness as it starts to warm up - it’s not the worst thing I’ve had from Breughel - but that’s faint praise.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle (500ml). Shared with blankboy, my bottle. Another gusher - a slow one, but it kept oozing out. Poured cloudy deep brown with a massive off-white frothy/fizzy lasting head. Like the "double" we had by them immediately before, a dry spice/yeast aroma, peppery, but sharp mineral, iron and paper harshness, some light caramel malt and faint banana eventually surfaced. Taste - it’s trying for that Belgian brown sugar malt/spice thing, but fails - just sharp, dry, stale yeast, with a cheap booze/minerally aftertaste. Watery, astringent, stingingly harsh mouthfeel - pretty poor - and why the hell is this so bitter? Not good bitter - ugly bitter? Still better than that friggin’ double of theirs though.

Bottle shared with and courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a murky brown with a friggin’ huge wacky off-white head. Aroma of malt, tomato juice, sugar and yeast -- not very pleasant. Flavour starts with malt but then you’re hit with a horrid finish that’s beyond my abilities to describe. And if you think that’s bad, the finish just keeps going and going and won’t go away. Argh! Light bodied. Can this brewery make a good beer?

Long arrière goût en bouche. (Rating #364)

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
500 ml bottle shared with several Quebecois and one other drunk American at tiggmtl’s going away party in Montreal, from a New Belgium glass. Hmm, nobody who was at the party has rated this....could it be they all bowed out of it, as I was about to (into unconsciousness) after this? strange as it turned out to be, well you’ll see....a massive frothy white head topping the dirtyish brown body, actually looked fairly appealing, unfiltered and "natural", but.....vaguely unpleasant aroma, a bit bathroom-y though there is some ok caramel tone here and faint soft Belgian yeastiness....super-bland flavor, just so little going on here that it pains me to bother writing about it; light pale malt, cardboardy character towards the finish along with a bit of rough alcohol....still, I found this rather drinkable compared to the other garbage-fests from this horrible brewery and am surprised at the extremely low ratings; or maybe I was just too drunk to really "appreciate" it for what it was. Looking forward to the next Breughel treat!

Bottle: Poured a deep clear brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of stale grain with some sweet notes. Taste is a mix between some stale grain with some weird chemical like aftertaste which is just plain atrocious. Wow, just when you thought you had hit the bottom of the barrel it seems this brewer can concoct some atrocious recipe.

As I opened the bottle it gushed heavily. Pours a cloudy brown color with a huge, frothy tan head. The aroma is utterly disgusting, it feels like there’s somethin rotten in there. The flavor isn’t better, there’s some yeast in there but it’s not good at all, again it seems that there’s something rotten. Don’t try this beer.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
on tap at brewpub. as per previous ratings, no defect in this brew - probably a bottling process problem. cloudy medium dark brown with a decent light beige head, little retention, no lacing. caramel malts, some yeast and spices, fruitiness, some light grassiness. average carbonation, light body - some oilyness, short finish. not very good brew but clearly better than bottled version.
