3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at brewery.Chocolate brown pour. Roasty aroma with lots of chocolate malts. Pretty chocolate heavy in flavor, tasty but lacking dunkle characteristics. Little banana and clove notes. Extremely flavorful but perhaps misclassified

there is one line in the commercial description that explains my rating: "this is still a german lager beer". So, I don’t love it. would not call this a dark beer- even a dark lager, necessarily- was expecting more of a toasted malt color but pours more like a red ale. maltiness is there- definitely sweet and bready. Lighter bodied than I would like and tons of chocolate (which is somewhat hard to equate with the appearce). would drink the bohemian pilsner or the IPA over this one.

draft as sampler and then pint. poured dark red color with white head. medium sweet malt and some caramel. the flavor was so nice sweet malts and caramel. just a solid flavor had some hops but doesn’t take away from the malt base.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On draught at the brewery, it pours a chocolate-mahogany into the glass, with light ruby hues to the fringes. The head dissipates to a thin ring of suds lace. The nose is malty and of light cereal. Flavors of caramel and some chocolates, a touch of subdued tobacco leaf mingles in there, but nothing dominates. The finish closes on a touch of cherry. The mouthfeel has soft carbonation and is smooth to the palate. Not extremely complex past the malty backbone, but goes down well enough.
