COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Buck’s Bitter is a pale ale designed to appeal to the palate of the beer lovers used to Australian style “lagers”. Its light in colour with a simple malt profile, moderately hopped with a combination of different hops, including the Australian classic, Pride of Ringwood. Buck Bitter is named after the township of Buckingham to the east of Collie, known colloquially as Bucks.

From the bottle. A batch from the old brewery just out of Collie. Tried back in 2008.
Pours a hazy, golden amber with a few floaties about. Not much life and headless, it’s a little lacklustre to say the least. There is marmalade, caramel, almonds and praline on the nose with just a touch of tinny PofR. Fudge toffee and caramel notes hit in first inside, sweet with tangy citrus and apple in back before a peaking bitterness dropping off doughy and yeasty. The body is oddly full and the carbonation soft allowing an oily mouthfeel freedom to dominate. There is a little burn offered up by fusels in the swallow too. I’d say this was rush job to get it bottled as it show signs of corner cutting. One for a re-rate! (33cL, 5.5% ABV, no date stamp, Brew 42 Allanson, Collie)

Bottle, (5.5%) thanks to BlueVegie Yeast and hop aromas, acetaldehyde, some sweet malts. Flavours, of firm slightly woody bitterness, with acetaldehyde, quite dry.

They had trouble just naming this beer as Becks didn’t want them to use it at all. Almost golden body with short lasting head and some initial lacing. Notice the pride of ringwood in both the taste and aroma. Straightforward pale ale.
