COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Powerhouse Pale Ale is a true character beer of the India Pale Ale variety. It is heavily hopped with an imported American hop. It has more complex malt profile than Buck’s Bitter with crystal malt being used in the mash. As a resulting dark colour, with a touch of residual sweetness is imparted into the beer providing a balance to the bitterness of the hops. Powerhouse Pale Ale is named in recognition of Collie as the power centre of the state.

From the bottle. A batch from the old brewery just out of Collie. Tried back in 2008.
Poured a hazy and dull orange amber with a few floaties about like their Buck’s Bitter. This one had a head to offer though; a lasting, loose, sudsy off-white mess that left some good legs. Simmered tangerines and pears on the nose with a light touch of pine, toasted malt and ripe peach. Piney, woody and pale nut mix inside with a biscuity sweetness coming through up front. Nice balance of esters in back; tangy, sharp underripe grapefruit, tangerines, lychee and peach through into the bitter fruit swallow. Drops off quite short, fresh, crisp; the body not hefty with adequate carbonation to keep it lively. This is refreshing stuff. Went down well chilled and better with just a little warmth in it. A solid effort. (33cL, no date stamp, Brew 42 Allanson, Collie)

Bottle, Courtesey of Bluevegie Aromas of American hops and greeapple, and cardboard. Flavours of the same. I think the bottle line needs some work.

Tried straight after the Bucks Bitter I enoyed this one more. This was more golden in body, hops more prominent though not totally dominating and a longer finish. Also tried their back up version to this as they haven’t decided which one to go with full time.
