Bottle at home in London - picked up at the brewery. Pours deep brown with a creamy beige head. The aroma is quite dynamic, with predominating roasted malts, some baking cocoa, lightly tangy dark fruits, some milk chocolate. Medium sweet flavor with nice, velvety chocolate character, some bitter burnt wood and earth, charcoal, raisins and burnt toffee. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Robust roasted malt finish with some edgy baking cocoa, charred bread, hard water minerality and leathery fruits. Well balanced with nice complexity. Another winning dark beer from BBNo.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with late awakening, small, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Chocolately dark malty aroma, hints of cocoa, milk chocolate, coffee, which somehow can’t deny their grainy origin. Taste is roasty dark malty, bitter, notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee; full (somehow heavy) body,

dark loamy brown with frothy tan head. Cocoa and toast. Robust and rich, earthy roast barley, coffee and toast. Superb, reaffirms my love of porters.

Flavour is woody earthy brown malt, dark choc and vanilla. Lingering smokey roast malts. Some unrefined sugars. Palate is full with lowish carbonation.

Keg at the brewery, 29/03/14. Black with a good sized tan head that retains well. Nose is roast malt, earthy cocoa, dark toffee, dark malts, charring effect. Taste comprises chocolate, light roast, dark toffee fudge, dark berry fruits, hoppy backnotes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying finale. Solid easy drinking porter.

Half at the brewery shared with the thepeter at Thomas’s b’day drink. Opaque very dark brown, off white foam head. Another classic and brilliant porter from Brew by Numbers. Nose is chocolate, black coffee, caramel, roasted malt. Taste is the perfect balance of flavours, not the coffee and roasted malt bombs that are popular right now. Luscious chocolate, moderate coffee and roasted malt, caramel, some dark ruby fruit notes.
