Bottle from de Molen, dated 24/11/2014 BB 24/11/2015, 7% abv, large sample. Dark brown color, medium creamy brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, bit coffee, slight blackcurrant, hint of lactose, earthy hop. Soft malty bitterness, full bodied. Stunning good balance, fantastic craftsmanship. dark loamy brown with frothy tan head. Cocoa and toast. Robust and rich, earthy roast barley, coffee and toast. Superb, reaffirms my love of porters.

Borresteijn (5406) - Zaandam, NETHERLANDS - FEB 2, 2015
On tap at In de Wildeman. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of hard-roasted malts, burnt black liquorice, almost ashy, some toffee, bitter chocolate, coffee, it’s all about the roast here. Flavour is lots of roast, burnt malts, burnt liquorice, light fruity, toffee, coffee, chocolate, hoppy and malty bitter finish. Medium bodied. Very good.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is an inky black beer that pours without a head. It has a rich liquorice, chocolate and red fruity flavour with a slight roasted and further creamy liquorice finish.

(Draught at the brewery, 12 Apr 2014) Black colour with lasting, creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, chocolate, cacao and toasty malt. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, cacao, a touch of vanilla and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of milky sweetness. Well made and very tasty, exceptionally well balanced. My first from this brewery, but hopefully not the last. Lovely porter.

Half at the brewery shared with the thepeter at Thomas’s b’day drink. Opaque very dark brown, off white foam head. Another classic and brilliant porter from Brew by Numbers. Nose is chocolate, black coffee, caramel, roasted malt. Taste is the perfect balance of flavours, not the coffee and roasted malt bombs that are popular right now. Luscious chocolate, moderate coffee and roasted malt, caramel, some dark ruby fruit notes.

Leighton (13942) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 24, 2014
Bottle at home in London - picked up at the brewery. Pours deep brown with a creamy beige head. The aroma is quite dynamic, with predominating roasted malts, some baking cocoa, lightly tangy dark fruits, some milk chocolate. Medium sweet flavor with nice, velvety chocolate character, some bitter burnt wood and earth, charcoal, raisins and burnt toffee. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Robust roasted malt finish with some edgy baking cocoa, charred bread, hard water minerality and leathery fruits. Well balanced with nice complexity. Another winning dark beer from BBNo.

Bottle from Drinkstore. Also had on draught recently at Against The Grain. Deep brown, thin tan head. Musty roasted malt nose. Nice cocoa note, some milk chocolate too. Flavours follow the nose, nice dose of brown malt too. Robust body and mouthfeel, smooth as you like. Lovely.

Countbeer (5297) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - JAN 30, 2015
Draight@Oersoep: Served in a shaker: Deep dark almost black beer with a small creamy brown mocha head. Aromas of roast, coffee, raisin, coal, great aroma. Flavours of roast, bitters, nuts, coal, coffee, coffee roast, dark chocolate, herbal roast... Aftertaste is bitter, roast, coffee, dark chocolate and some coffee roast. Low carbo, light watery, light creamy mouthfeel, more than medium bodied.
