4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Half at the brewery shared with the thepeter at Thomas’s b’day drink. Opaque very dark brown, off white foam head. Another classic and brilliant porter from Brew by Numbers. Nose is chocolate, black coffee, caramel, roasted malt. Taste is the perfect balance of flavours, not the coffee and roasted malt bombs that are popular right now. Luscious chocolate, moderate coffee and roasted malt, caramel, some dark ruby fruit notes.

Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light and dry. Modest carbonation. Tangy dry dark malts. Touches of lactose and dark chocolate. Earthy bitter coffee aftertaste after the dry finish. Standard porter done well.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at the brewery. It pours near black with medium tan head. The nose is earthy, roasty, treacle, dark chocolate, rocky road and nuts. The taste is rich, roasty, toast, earth, dark chocolate, decent bitterness, coffee, mild acidity and peppery with a dry, roasty finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Rich and flavoursome. Very nice.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is an inky black beer that pours without a head. It has a rich liquorice, chocolate and red fruity flavour with a slight roasted and further creamy liquorice finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Draught at the brewery, 12 Apr 2014) Black colour with lasting, creamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, chocolate, cacao and toasty malt. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, cacao, a touch of vanilla and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of milky sweetness. Well made and very tasty, exceptionally well balanced. My first from this brewery, but hopefully not the last. Lovely porter.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Darkest brown with small tan head. Nose is full of roasted coffee malt, slightest hint of hops. Lovely consistency in the mouth, although this bottle seemed a little flat. Big coffee flavours and suitably bitter on the back end. Overall, sticks very much to tradition and does so very well.

33 cl bottle
Dark brown pour, medium sized beige head. Oaty and malty aroma, some faint chocolate notes with mild wooden hints. Chocolaty malts and rye on the flavor, subtle caramel and dried fruits. Fairly easy to drink, a bit watery feel to it though.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home in London - picked up at the brewery. Pours deep brown with a creamy beige head. The aroma is quite dynamic, with predominating roasted malts, some baking cocoa, lightly tangy dark fruits, some milk chocolate. Medium sweet flavor with nice, velvety chocolate character, some bitter burnt wood and earth, charcoal, raisins and burnt toffee. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Robust roasted malt finish with some edgy baking cocoa, charred bread, hard water minerality and leathery fruits. Well balanced with nice complexity. Another winning dark beer from BBNo.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with late awakening, small, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Chocolately dark malty aroma, hints of cocoa, milk chocolate, coffee, which somehow can’t deny their grainy origin. Taste is roasty dark malty, bitter, notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee; full (somehow heavy) body,
