Draft. A pitch black beer with a lazing brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and oatmeal. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and oatmeal as well as lighter notes of roasted malt and tobacco, leading to a dry and roasted finish.

Sample at the brewpub on 8/7/10. Black pour with a thick tan head. Roasty aroma that has a good amount of creaminess to it with some chocolate. Flavor starts with chocolate and cream and finishes roasty and semi-sweet.

Bottle thanks to bhensonb sampled on 7/26/09: Pours an opaque black with dark brown edges and a thin ring of dark tan head. Aroma of sweet roasty dark caramel malt with a touch of molasses. Starts with lightly sugary dark malty sweetness and some earthy dark chocolatey notes before a dry roasty bittersweet finish. Has pretty good complexity and is true to style.

Not offensive, but nothing that really makes it stand out. A bit bland and watery, especially in the finish.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a opaque no visible carbonation black colored body and an excellent lacing. The aroma was brown malt bready and dark malt. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of roasted malt breads and herseys cocoa chocolate. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

Draft at the brewpub. Aroma of dark roasted malt. Dark brown color with a beige head that did not last. A bit thinnish. Starts with that good dark roasted malt - thinking Guinness. It finishes that way. Refreshing.
