Draft. A hazy amber beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma is weak - what is there is malty and alcoholic. The flavor is very sweet with notes of malt, caramel, alcohol, and phenols, leading to a dry and alcoholic finish.

Bottle thanks to bhensonb sampled on 4/5/09: Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with a well-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet caramel and complex fruity flavors with some mild piny hops. Starts with good malty sweetness and some light fruity aged complexity and a touch of warmth before a doughy bittersweet finish. A true to style and enjoyable English -styled barleywine.

Dark amber pour with a thin head and soft lace. The nose is floral and a little citrusy. Some sweetness, and a touch musty. Caramel malts up front, toffee, fruity sweetness. Big malty body followed by floral and citrus bitterness. Rather balanced really.

BeerBunker (709) - Burbank, Illinois, USA - JUL 6, 2009
12oz bottle. Pours amber with the smallest tan head possible. Aroma is of malt, alcohol, caramel, and dark fruit. Smells like it would knock you on your ass. Taste is all alcohol for the first few sips. After you manage to get past the alcohol content, there is some caramel malt, dark fruit, and sugar. Mouthfeel is medium and sticky. Lingering taste of alcohol and dark fruit. This falls into the category of "get you drunk barleywines, but not much else." Not too harsh, with just enough flavor to make it easy to drink.

[Bottle, thanks CaptainCougar!] Pours reddish-amber with a small yellow-cream head. Pretty subdued aroma, fruity, strawberry, notes of cherry. Not bad. The hops are pretty big up front on the taste. Also, a lot of caramel, some nuttiness and malt in the finish. Decent mouthfeel, smooth, and has a lingering bitterness to go along with the malt in the finish. A pretty decent barley wine overall.
