kujo9 (1043), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Feb 18, 2005 22 oz bottle: Large, lasting beige head on a deep, dark brown body. Aromas of chocolate malt and roasty coffee, as well as some perfumey alcohol. Hints of caramel and brown sugar. Also a light graham cracker malt aroma. Well balanced up front, goes to a bitter and herbal hop flavor mid palate into the finish. The aftertaste is roasted coffee and lightly bitter. Between is caramel, brown sugar flavors, and only hints of chocolate. Low fruitiness. Mouthfeel is resiny and astringent, low medium carbonation, and a thinner body, but not watery. Overall not a bad beer, but a little too resiny and bitter for my liking in a porter.
