aracauna (2221), Georgia, USA Jun 6, 2004 I now officially love The Brew Kettle. This is a beatiful beer with a rick cloudy ruby topped off with a thick, dense, off-white head. The aroma is strongly of caramel and bananas. The banana in the flavor is almost breath-taking, but the finish is a bit short. This could probably stand for a bit more clove from the yeast to balance out the esters, but still an excellent dunkelweizen. I don’t think I could tell it from a good German-brewed one on a blind taste test. The main drawback is that it lacks that creamy palate of the best hefeweizens and dunkelweizens. BBB63 (3681), La Porte, Indiana, USA Jun 3, 2004 Deep amber copper hue with big frothy off-white head and excellent lace. The aroma had notes of lemongrass, lime, banana ester, caramel toasted malts, floral hops, and bittersweet chocolate. The taste starts fruity and wheaty, banana and lemon taste mostly. Undertone of mocha, sublime spice and grains towards finish. The feel is smooth, dry and lively; chalky upon finish. Overall it’s a quaffable brew than hints of all things in style, but ultimately needs to be bolder in presentation. A worthy effort which has potential. kujo9 (1043), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Jun 2, 2004 Lasting frothy light beige head, very hazy brown body. Light banana ester & hints of chocolate, very light hints of clove a lightly medicinal chloraseptic/band aid aroma. Also some slight wheat and munich malts. Every part of the aroma is light. Banana esters dominate at first, but fade quickly and the entire beer falls flat on the palate. Well balanced but after the initial flavor, it goes away; light wheat flavor & hints of clove at best. Finish is a bit tart and dry, aftertaste is void. There really isn’t any of which to speak. Highly carbonated & smooth, lighter body. this beer needs more of everything. Not completely tasteless, but would be a good beginner beer for people who "don’t like wheat beer or dark beers".
