kujo9 (1044), North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA Apr 15, 2005 22 oz bottle: Deep golden color w/ a lasting white head. Aroma, initially, is grainy malt with a subdued smoke. Clean... and for some reason, when I first poured it, there was a ginger aroma. Probably just caused by the smokiness. Well balanced, lightly smoky in the finish and short aftertaste. Fairly neutral malt flavor, no hops. Lighter medium body, medium carbonation, smooth. Much like their lagers, but with hints of smokiness to add to complexity. Would probably go well with a slow BBQ’d chicken. Not your typical smoked beer, it’s very subdued, which I much prefer to the true rauchbiers.
