Brew Moon Black Hole Lager 8/20/08 (on tap, Brewpub. Pours black with tan head. Dark chocolate, hops, black coffee, and roasts in the nose. Flavor is similar to some lighter stouts I’ve had, but evident lager-qualities help avoid style confusion. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me in hindsight, but I do remember that this beer never got truly bitter, so I’ll say that the mid-palate features some sweetening malt, almost a licorice flavor. Overall, this is a solid, flavorful brew, probably tops from this brewpub.

Taster - Brew Moon Brewery - Honolulu, Hawaii
2008 - Hawaiian Beer Run
Aroma – Great use of dark malts and a great amount of hops.
Appearance – Brown in color with a clear view and a nice light head.
Flavor – Deep flavor from the malts the hops added a great flavor. I got molasses and chocolates flavors also.
Palate – Nice Mouthfeel with a good dry finish.
Overall – This was the best beer for this place. Had flavor, finish and overall just hit the spot and had a lot of great care to brew this beer.

Sampled at the brewery and I believe this to be my first in style. Medium brown in color, with a surprising smell and taste of chocolate, metal, and malts.

Draft at brewpub. Very dark pour with a decent head. Roasty aromas with a decent flavor that really profiled the Black Patent malts. Not Bad
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 swanmann (399) - Norman, Oklahoma, USA - MAR 18, 2007
Taster had a very chocolatey aroma, even from the sample glass, roasty. Nice black apearance w/ hazlenut highlights and a creamy off-white head. Mild chocolatey bitterness with slight acidic astringency and a quick finish. Very good
3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 chadzter (94) - huntsville, Alabama, USA - JAN 28, 2006
Sampler, pours Dark Black with a thin brownish color head. Creamy full body with a milk chocolate texture that has a hoppy bitterness to it. Ending with a light wood taste. I enjoy this more than the rest in the sampler.
2.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 9/20 ontario102 (794) - Boise, Idaho, USA - MAY 23, 2005
This beer tastes like a stout (roasted black patent taste) without the body, and like a schwarzbier without the smoothness; strange, and not much more
