Botella de 660ml. Vaso Tumbler. Enjoyed on mar´13. Dark brown in color. Beige froth leaves spots on sides & a lasting layer on top. Toasted & roasted malt aromas, earthy notes, black bread & slight cocoa hues, kind of barneyard/cheese hints. Creamy roasted malts & rye touch at first sip. Clean & resinous bitterness & bready notes follow. Medium to full body. Moderate carbonation.Spicy touch but palate keeps on being smooth. Long bitter finish. Dry & harsh aftertaste. Very easy drinkability & flavorful sensation. Evident hoppy tendency but malts & adjuncts play an importan role. Have you ever tried a Rye one ? If not. Then discovered in this rye smelling, flavor & mouthfeel. If yes, then enjoy this one!

A Sim rate (cask at the Brew Wharf): Aroma is bitter chocolate & caramel. Flavour’s got a mad bitter hit with some real citric hoppiness that really follows through. Finish is a lovely bitterness that makes you keep puckering not to miss it. Nicely balanced and tasty treat.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 23 Nov 2012) Dark brown colour with brief head. Roasted, malty nose with dark bread, ryvita, pine needles and resin. Malty, roasted taste with notes of dark rye bread, pine needles, resin and a solid piney bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Nice one.

Cask at Brew Wharf. Red brown colour, very small gold bubbly head. Aroma is fairly regular pale ale smell. Bit of citrus, maybe something a bit dark there but only a hint. Taste is a touch chocolatey, roasty malt, bit of creaminess and a touch of hops. Later sips are more grainy. Very soft in the mouth. Taste is more interesting than the smell definitely. Further down the hops dominate.

65cl bottle @Lúpulo Feroz. Some roasty, caramel, sweet and spicy aromas. Pours very dark, murky, with nice tan head, vanishing, poor lacing. Medium body, flat carbonation, oily texture. Taste is really bitter, cereal, spicy. Rye notes present. Maybe a bit watery, lacking body, but the final result is nice, enjoyable. Very bitter aftertaste.

At the Brewpub. Clear but very dark brown beer. Tidy pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry with moderate carbonation. The dark malt starts with a light touch but develop a roasty bitterness punch. Tangy orange fruit in the mid. Sweet and bitter pine in the finish with traces of reb berry fruits and rye spice and pinch of ash. Bitter linger. Interesting beer.

Cask at White Horse Parsons Green, Old Ale Festival - 23/11/12. Mid black with a thin tan head which dissipates fairly quickly. Nose is hops, pine, light chocolate, dark malt, tropical fruit notes. Tastes of dusty dark cocoa, bitter pine, hops, light bread, mineral tones. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Great black IPA.

Cask at The White Horse on Parsons Green, London. Pours clear brown with a bubbly tan head. Dirty pine aroma, some tropical fruits, grapefruit. Light sweet flavor with lots of dirty pine, grass, straight dirt, grapefruit. Lots of gritty, earthy bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Gritty, resinous finish with more pine, grass and grapefruit. A touch abrasive at times.

Scopey (3243) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 26, 2012
Cask at White Horse Parsons Green. It pours very dark brown with a small bubbly off-white head. The nose is wood, earth, jammy dark fruit, varnish, light spice and cheese. The taste is roasted malt, charcoal, varnish, very dry, spice and wood with a bitter finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. A bit rough around the edges and too dry for my liking.

Cask @ The White Horse Old Ale Festival. The pour’s deep brown with a tiny off-white head. The nose is peppery hop, orange peel, some jammy fruity malts. The taste is more peppery, brash hops. Mild resin and wood, burnt orange peel and marmalade-slathered toast. Rough ’n ready flavors. Medium body, aggressive mouthfeel. Overall, interesting if a bit untethered. OK.
