3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, USA - MAY 30, 2011
Cask at Brew Wharf, 7th Sept 2010. Dark copper looks. Fruity initial smell and taste. In the mouth it’s got a slight meatiness that puts you in mind of a Belgian bruin. Dry finish. Interesting without being great.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 harrisoni (10070) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - SEP 17, 2010
Cask handpull at Brew Wharf, Borough, thanks to Bobinlondon for buying it. Brown bitter which is not great. Some barely ok hop on end, some sweet toffee and strawberry flavour.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (4094) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 16, 2010
Cask at Brew Wharf. Pours a semi-clear, amber-gold with a thin, foamy head. Rich malt aroma with chestnut and caramel. Lightly sweet flavor with earthy bitterness. Quite bready. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and light resin feel. Finishes with faint honey sweetness and mild, dirty bitters. Very good.
2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 SilkTork (4736) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - SEP 8, 2010
Brew Wharf. Thanks to bobinlondon for the drink. I had more than my fair share of this homebrew as others left theirs and gave it to me, and - as I was engaged in conversation - I kept on drinking without paying attention. It contained malt and hops, though they didn’t sit together well, and the result was rather muddled. Couldn’t make much sense of it. I understand that the beer Charlwood made which won the competition was considerably stronger than 4.1% - not sure how or why it ended up at this strength, but it clearly isn’t the same beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ladnewton (910) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 6, 2010
On tap at Brew Wharf on 3rd September 2010. Copper with clean white head. Very patchy lacing. Aroma is of malt and soft fruit. Main taste in mouth is both malty and bitter, without too much sweetness. Finish is solidly bitter on a light to zingy textured mouthfeel. Very pleasant quencher, just above session strength. Well crafted.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 madmitch76 (6173) - , Essex, ENGLAND - SEP 5, 2010
2nd September 2010 at Brew Wharf. I noted this as 4.1%? Hazy amber beer with a good off white head. Fairly dry palate. Dry malt base. The hops are slightly spicy and feel vaguely ’green’ - I mean like that slight vegetal feel you get if you licked a raw hop! Finishes dry with some orange hop coming forward and a bitterish aftertaste. Nice enough but I couldn’t drink more than a pint.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 tdtm82 (668) - Essex, ENGLAND - SEP 1, 2010
Half, Brew Wharf, 1st September 2010. A golden-brown bitter, murky in appearance which suggests that this needs to settle for a little while longer, creamy-white head, good hop bitterness, floral texture, toffee, sweet caramal malt, sparkling Slovak hops liven this up thus improving the drinkability. Carbonation is soft. Not my cup of tea but I guess this is Mark’s answer to ’Don’t Believe The Hype’. Phil, is this true!!???
