I get it, I get it, he was the Kartoffelkönig! 0,75L bottle from the market hall. Lists as ingredient the venerable Kartoffelstärke (potato starch). Earthy chocolate-and-chicory nose with heavy roast. Red-brown body in the cola tradition with a creamy, lacing light brown head. Taste starts bone dry, probably from the roast, though I do detect some sweetness after the initial shock. Coffee and mocha notes more in the mouthfeel than anything else, weird sort of acidic tang here, tons of coffee connotations without that get-up-and-boogie red hand. Medium body, lightly crisp, light bitterness, and a dark and velvety city roast aftertaste. A strange bird, this one, but I do like it.

Bottle 750ml.

Clear dark brown colour with a large to huge, frothy, good lacing, mostly to fully lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, coffee, dark malt, sour malt, dusty, feet, mushroom. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate acidic with a long duration, sweet licorice, roasted, dark malt. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120323]

Bottle: Literally black, huge stable fluffy tanned head, delicate traces of infection in the sweetish toasty-fruity nose; pretty solid drier bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied; the acidity returns in the leathery-fruity finish. Not great…

Black color, with a generous frothy head. Smell of all possible infections: feet, mushroom, chemicals… Roasted malts and sour infection, that’s all. Do the potatoes add some roundness?

Dedollewaitor (10292) - Odense, DENMARK - MAR 23, 2012
Bottle @ AA-Meeting, Western Denmark 2012. Pours dark brown with a frothy foam and lacings. Nose is roast, vague coffee, caramel and liquorice. Flavor is tart fruit and ashes. Medium bodied.

mile (1447) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAR 16, 2012
Bottle. Very dark brown – almost black, small to average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Moderate, malty and lightly sweetish aroma, some roasted malt and some barn yard, light coffee. Body is medium, malty and lightly sweetish flavor, light roasted malt and light barn yard, light coffee. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, light roasted malt and light barn yard, faint coffee and light sourness. Could do without that barn yard aroma/flavor.

Koelschtrinker (7051) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - MAR 16, 2012
12/9/11/10/11/10

Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass deep black, nice head. Starts intense malty, not too roasty, fine spicy-earthy. Hints of liquorice. Well balanced finish, mild-malty. Very interesting.

Bottle. Almost black. This beer smells indeed like roast and potato crisps (ready salted). Malty roasty salty flavor with potato crisps. Very interesting beer.

750ml bottle. Opaque black with huge creamy beige head. Mouldy, scruffy aroma, sourish, like rat dejection in the cellar where potatoes are laid in. Complete sour taste with a very late dry dark malt stout note in the finish. Must be infected. BBE 07/12.
