Bottle from Plonk (July 2014). Darkest brown, small creamy tan head, aroma of spicy beef jerky, complex flavours of chocolate, roast malt, pepper, smoked meat, medium body, peppery finish. Brilliant, Hendo’s done it again!

Looks.. Very dark, ruby tinge, med- lge latte colour head.
Smells..roast malts, slight smokey meats, spice/pepper hints.
Tastes..roasty and smokey malts, peppery and smokey meat vibes.
So vegan. I dig it.

Looks okay - black with small head. Aroma is mild peppery quality and some very minor meaty smoke. Same on the flavour but not quite as exciting due to perhaps too much vegetative taste. Lovely peppery finish though! Okay beer.

Restrained aroma (when cold) leads to a similarly modest spiciness. Add both to an otherwise full-bodied porter and you have the makings of a ’black beer conversion machine’.

On tap at The Tipplers Tap. Pours black with a thick off white head, roasted aroma, smooth with a pleasant pepper finish. I’m surprised by he much I like it.

Pours very dark brown with a large lasting head.
Nose shows pepper, smoked malt, meaty notes, soft roasted malt. Very savoury-seeming.
More pepper as a flavours alongside the smoked malt but the roasted notes are a lot stronger than in the aroma. The name says it all.
Carbonation is excessive.

Big peppery aromas. The peppery taste develops from mild to strong as the temperature increases, matching the roasted malt flavours perfectly. A full body with a strong finish.

From a 500ml bottle on 6/7/2014 (shared by Butz with thanks). Pours a very dark brown with a small head. Has an aroma which really does smell a bit meaty and quite peppery, with a dash of chocolate. In the mouth, hot pepper dominates, with some steak and some roasty bitter notes following. This really does come across as pepper steak in a bottle. But I’m not sure you want this flavour in a beer. Very unusual but a touch harsh and not particularly enjoyable. Would not be inclined to revisit.

On tap at Brewski 220614. Pepper steak in a glass. Deep black colour with light tan head. Lots of pepper in the finish.
