COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A fury of dots and dashes come trough the receiver. The translator turns in amazement. "A Zero IBU IPA by two breweries separated by sea?" His commanding officer lays a grizzled hand on his shoulder as his eyes narrow toward the horizon. "No bastard ever won a war by playing it safe, son."
The International Arms Race is a new type of battle collaboration between hardcore American craft brewery Flying Dog and BrewDog.
’Zero IBU IPA’ is an ale brewed with berries and herbs.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with negligible white head. Distinct aroma of raw ginger and possibly fir tree needles. Ditto taste, enhanced by a fruity note in the long nose. Quite interesting, as the beer contains no hops. Dryish aftertaste. Not bad but nothing particularly impressive.

Bottle, 7.5%. Spicy and herbal aroma, gingery and blackcurranty. Clear dark amber colour. Small frothy tan head. The flavour is like the aroma, spicy and herbal. Caramelly malt base. Has some ginger, but without much bite. Also juniper, I guess. Like a lot of the new types of christmas beer, but not bad.

Pours orange with a white head that disappears fast. Herbal aroma of ginger and laurel. Sweet herbal taste and no real bitterness. Not very nice but much better than the Flying Dog.

Geruch süßlich, kräuterig, Rosmarin. Während des gesamten Verlaufs dominant nach Rosmarin. Kräuterig auslaufend, weniger bitter. Gewöhnungsbedürftig.

11.2 oz bottle - pours hazy crimson/copper/yellow with small, lasting white head. Big nose, with lots going on. Hibiscus, potpourri, dried leaves, fragrant berries, pepper, incense, and other flavors. All spice. Little fruit. Taste is fragrant as well, if rather non-descript. Finishes with a touch of flat notes and cool banana. Oily. Not that great, though much better than local boys’ entry sad to say. Not a seeker or a keeper, but would do in a mighty pinch.

Cerveza rojiza de espuma débil y cremosa. Huele a hierbas, tipo romero o menta. El sabor es de lo más extraño: ácido, amargo, seco, afrutado, ¿mentolado?... algún matiz me recuerda a la tónica o a algún licor de hierbas. Bastante ligera. Es una cerveza que me ha dejado desconcertado, una rareza.

Deep amber golden colour with a big bubbly tan head. Nice light fruity spicy aroma. Juniper are the most dominating spice in the nose. Medium body. Moderate sweetness and bitterness. Juinper are also the most dominant flavour in this one. Also some other herbs and light fruity. Smooth carbonation. I must admit that The Flying Dog version was the better one (by far)! But this spicy ale was also nice.

Just too special to be anything good, looks that the lack of hops is not an option for me, even carbonation is poor.

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2013 1)Keg, BrewDog Brum. Cherry red levelled with cream. Vegetal, dull, red-sugared, tinned maizy belgian flavour. Didn’t pick up on any weirdness. So boring. 2) Bottle. Copper amber, plump cream head. Appealing evergreen and menthol aspects to the nose. Somewhat bilious, tongue-numbing, (Belgian) park bench-friendly flavour pretty much as previously described, albeit with lurking herbal and menthol notes beneath the booze. On balance, not balanced- the alcohol dominates where hops should. 635311.
