A fury of dots and dashes come trough the receiver. The translator turns in amazement. "A Zero IBU IPA by two breweries separated by sea?" His commanding officer lays a grizzled hand on his shoulder as his eyes narrow toward the horizon. "No bastard ever won a war by playing it safe, son."
The International Arms Race is a new type of battle collaboration between hardcore American craft brewery Flying Dog and BrewDog.
’Zero IBU IPA’ is an ale brewed with berries and herbs.

Bottle from Brewdog. Pours amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is malty, with some spices underneath. Taste is light sweet malts, woody and oaky kind of bitterness, with a lingering minty/liquorice aftertaste.

Bottle from BrewDogs webshop. Spicy smell and taste. Reminds me a bit of certain spiced beers in Sweden, but not as good.

Bottle 33cl from Fonefan thanks, a clear copper amber beer with good head. Nose is intense on ginger and pepper, aroma is sweet, floral, spicy, peppery, lot of ginger, herbal notes, cinnamon, kind of tree roots touch and light soap notes. Finish is again herbal and peppery, interesting.

Draught. Clear, reddish copper colour, no head. Herbal-sweet aroma, a hint of strawberry with loads of rosemary and thyme aromas and some resins. Sweetish, slightly sugary malt base, some grains, strong herbal finish with some resiny bitterness. Slightly vegetably. Medium body, smooth texture with nice carbonation. Curiosity.

Rusty copper pour with a small white head, decent lacing. Dark fruit, spice, nut, damp smelly socks. Medium carbonation, meaty. There’s an almost artificial astringency which is not hugely pleasant. Sweetness coming the fruit and slightly tart. Arms Race is a curious little beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

AMber body, white head. ARoma is quite sharp with spices and some maltiness. Bit fruity. Flavour reminds me Special Holiday Ale, which was excellent. This ain’t. Something nice with the spices, but drinkability suffers a lot.

Bottle 330ml @ Christianssand Brygghus, Kristiansand
Pours deep golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, ginger, floral and herbs. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

33 cl. bottle split with Benzai @ hotel during Borefts 2012. Ok label - agreeable concept, highly unlikely that it will work - also the choice of herbs to replace the hops is truly puzzling. It is like they almost didn’t want us to drink this stuff but I still got curious. Dark amber with a white head, Smells like mouthwash, half glycerol / half chewing-gum style mint, toothpaste malt. Tastes like chewing-gum mint, toothpaste, bitter herbal, spices and mouthwash. Medium bodied I would say - we tasted some of this stuff but that was that. Are you supposed to drink this - I think you should brush your teeth with this stuff.

Tide (1834) - Espoo, FINLAND - SEP 30, 2012
Bottle from Brewdog shop. Amber color, white head. Sweet taste with berries, toast, citrus and grapefruit. Good balance in body. Dry bitter finish with berries. Not bad, better than the counterpart of Flying Dog.

Bottle at home, again, thanks to Lewis! Poured golden with obvious carbonation but no head what so ever. Slightly flat in the mouth too. Flavours of spearmint, which is the most noticeable flavour, making it taste like drinking a beer after brushing your teeth. Some woody flavours, herbs (no shit Sherlock!) orange, bay and thyme. It tastes unbalanced and with things going on all over the place, pretty badly melded together. It tastes lie Vikki’s Lush shampoo. Not very pleasant though it is better in the mouth than on the nose
