A fury of dots and dashes come trough the receiver. The translator turns in amazement. "A Zero IBU IPA by two breweries separated by sea?" His commanding officer lays a grizzled hand on his shoulder as his eyes narrow toward the horizon. "No bastard ever won a war by playing it safe, son."
The International Arms Race is a new type of battle collaboration between hardcore American craft brewery Flying Dog and BrewDog.
’Zero IBU IPA’ is an ale brewed with berries and herbs.
2 IPAs that rock.
Hunt them both down and see which beer you think deserves to win the battle and the war.

0.33l bottle. Pours light amber with a very thin white head. Aroma of ginger with some sweet bubble gum. A lot of ginger and bubble gum in the taste as well. The zero IBU IPA is an interesting idea, but this beer is not extraordinary.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2013 33cl, new exclusive Scottish collab. brew Anno 2012, with spices and herbs, from The Bottle Shop Canterbury, not complex sweet brew, malty/spicy and slightly fruity, yet balanced, clear, small head, nothing special, yet original brew!

Keg at Brewdog. Dark Amber with a very thin White head. Massive Sage nose. Flavour is Sage and some pine. Reminiscent of the Williams Pine beer but much worse. I really enjoy the taste of fresh Sage so this appealed to me to some extent. The bitterness is definitely conspicuous in it’s absence. The better of the two ’Arms Race’ beers. Both were fairly wack though.

Aroma: Herbal and slightly fruity.

Appearance: Deep amber body. Hold its head slightly better than the Flying Dog version, though it still disappears pretty quickly. Medium carbonation. No lacing.

Taste: The malty notes are more prevalent than in the Flying Dog version. Herbal and fruit flavours. Not particularly moreish.

Palate: Thin, watery body with a slightly oily texture. Lively carbonation.

Overall: Brilliant experiment to brew a beer without hops - definitely something different! This is better than the Flying Dog version, or rather, less horrible.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; interesting challenge a no hop IPA, pours amber with a slight red with a frothy head that disappears quickly. You can smell botanicals and spice almost like gin. They have achieved a bitter taste but it tastes a bit like juicy fruit bubblegum that is loosing its flavour. Glad I’ve tried it!

Keg at BrewDog Camden. It pours very clear red-amber, with a quickly dissipating off-white head. The nose is bubblegum, candyfloss, Irn Bru, floral and spearmint. The taste doesn’t quite live up to the nose: dull fruit sweetness, diet Irn Bru, light bubblegum, well hidden alcohol, herbal and peppery notes, with a dry finish. Medium body, low carbonation and slick mouth-feel. An interesting experiment for sure, but I wouldn’t rush back for another...

030912. Tap at Kahdet Kasvot, Tampere. Pours clear copper with a small head. Aroma lots of spices and herbs, maybe coriander and ginger. Sweet citrus taste. Carbonation seems to disappear quickly from the glass. Medium low palate. Strange stuff as expected.
