COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A fury of dots and dashes come trough the receiver. The translator turns in amazement. "A Zero IBU IPA by two breweries separated by sea?" His commanding officer lays a grizzled hand on his shoulder as his eyes narrow toward the horizon. "No bastard ever won a war by playing it safe, son."
The International Arms Race is a new type of battle collaboration between hardcore American craft brewery Flying Dog and BrewDog.
íZero IBU IPAí is an ale brewed with berries and herbs.

030912. Tap at Kahdet Kasvot, Tampere. Pours clear copper with a small head. Aroma lots of spices and herbs, maybe coriander and ginger. Sweet citrus taste. Carbonation seems to disappear quickly from the glass. Medium low palate. Strange stuff as expected.

Draught at Mikkeller Bar. Clear orange coloured with a small white head. Sweet and fruity aroma of caramel, herbs and spices. Sweet and fruity flavour of caramel, licorice, herbs and spices with notes of flowers. Spicy finish.

33cl. Bottle. Poosr clear orange with white head. Aroma is spicy, grape, grass. Taste is herby, sweet, no real bitter. Mouth-feel thin. This is better, maybe bit to herby.

On tap at BD Camden. It pours a copper colour with almost no head. Aroma is sour and spicy, with vinegar and sage. Taste is similarly sour and spicy, with some fruitiness and cinnamon as well. Quite vinegary. Mouthfeel is thin with good carbonation. Overall, very nice soured ale with spices: Odd but works well.

33cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours amber with gentle bubbles and a slim head. The nose has honey, green dry herbs, maybe mint or rosemary and spice, perhaps woodspice such as cinnamon or nutmeg. The taste has more of the honey and woodspices coming through rather than the herbs. The palate is medium bodied with a light to medium texture and a clean finish despite the sweetness. Overall, some of the notes reminded me of a beer I had that had spruce in it -

This race was clearly won by BrewDog, however Iím afraid itís because this beer is the least worse of the two. The aroma is grassy and something that reminded me of Hallís Mint Drops. First sip was ok, some orange and liquorice but not as much as the Flying Dog version. The palate was of artificial citrus flavouring and medicine. Iím selling my extra bottles

Bottle at In de Wildeman. Pours cloudy light brown with sediment. Aroma of citrus, lemonade and some malt. Flavour is medium sweet with no real bitterness. In this version the malt seems to counteract the citrus slightly making it better than the Flying Dog version in my opinion.

On tap at the wildeman. Almost no white head. Citrusy aroma. Cloudy amber pour. Almost no carbonation. Pretty good attempt despite the lack of hops

Keg @ BrewDog Glasgow. Strange orange brown colour, no head. Hoppy aroma. Strange vanilla hop flavour. Bitter sweet aftertaste. Very unusual. Not really my sort of beer.
