A fury of dots and dashes come trough the receiver. The translator turns in amazement. "A Zero IBU IPA by two breweries separated by sea?" His commanding officer lays a grizzled hand on his shoulder as his eyes narrow toward the horizon. "No bastard ever won a war by playing it safe, son."
The International Arms Race is a new type of battle collaboration between hardcore American craft brewery Flying Dog and BrewDog.
’Zero IBU IPA’ is an ale brewed with berries and herbs.

Very slightly hazy bronze and copper coloured body with almost no head at all - a few large bubbles on top. Aroma of pine, spruce, juniper berries, figs and hints of sage - very interesting. Medium-bodied; Assertive herbal and very aggresively showing sage and rosemary with a little alcohol and medicinal tastes coming through at the end. Aftertaste shows much more restraint than flying dog’s version, but still a very herbal and woodsy flavour that is a pure gruit. Overall, not a very good beer, period. Tasting this horizontally, I prefered this version over the American Flying Dog’s version, since this is a bit more herbal and showing some less aggressive flavours making it more of a natural flavour instead of being forced. Regardless, this isn’t a great beer and isn’t worth finding or trying at all. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle adjacent to the American (Flying Dog) version of this beer on 23-March-2014 at home in Washington with this specific 33 cL bottle purchased at Half Time in Poughkeepsie, New York on 26-December-2012 for US$4.99 (Batch #164, best before 23-May-2013).

UPDATED: JUN 24, 2014 Rating from the memory banks... Bottle from the Brewdog online shop. Developed a weird, ropey sediment in the bottle... Pours hazy amber, thin white head. Aromas were herbal and minty, light spice. Taste went a bit medicinal. Interesting experiment, but not very nice.

Härligt initiativ med denna duell, söt syrlig fruktig smak med toner av bär och honung..

Flaske 0,33l fra Vinmonopolet, bestillingsutvalget. Drukket hjemme 11 Jun 13. Gyldenbrun. Lavt luftig skum. God aroma av nåletrær. Smaken er skog: Einer, furu. Blir for ensforming. Mer original enn god. Litt julestemning - og sannsynligvis et eksempel på hvordan øl kunne smake før i tiden.

Doftar fläder fruktigt. Smakar citrus och honung. En god öl med en mickro bitter eftersmak.

Flaška: Honeyish-golden, a bit unclear, quickly collapsing loose off-white head, sweet herbal-spicy nose - some caramel detectable - very similar to cough-syrup; moderate to solid bitter and sweet flavour, medium bodied; warming sweet-bitter finish. A Jägermeister-like brew, who really needs such "beers"...

Pours hazy amber into a pint glass. Tan head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Sweet and sour herb satchel aromas (yarrow, lavender). Medium bodied with lavender and twigs front to back. Lasting perfume finish. The marketing gimmick of a zero IBU IPA definitely brings it down a notch or two.

Bottled. Hazy deep orangeish amber colour with a small slightly off-white head. Aroma is spices, citrus, spruce and caramel. Flavour is spices, citrus some herbs and mild notes of spruce. Balanced. IMO a bit more spicy than the FD/BD version.

... Aún me lo estoy preguntando.

(Bottle) Amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, spicy nose with ginger, honey, heather, clove, ginger-bread cake, dark bread, orange peel and a touch of mint. Malty, spicy taste with notes of ginger, cardamom, clove, anise, rye bread, orange and a perfumy finish with low bitterness. Medium body, with a certain herbal sweetness. Strange beer, but quite interesting. More interesting than brilliant actually. But quite enjoyable.
