A fury of dots and dashes come trough the receiver. The translator turns in amazement. "A Zero IBU IPA by two breweries separated by sea?" His commanding officer lays a grizzled hand on his shoulder as his eyes narrow toward the horizon. "No bastard ever won a war by playing it safe, son."
The International Arms Race is a new type of battle collaboration between hardcore American craft brewery Flying Dog and BrewDog.
’Zero IBU IPA’ is an ale brewed with berries and herbs.

The aroma is sweet and reminds me of my grandparents basement (some grandparents right) with malt, fruit, herbs, and grass. The appearance is hazy copper with a smallish head. The taste is like the aroma with dry finish. The palate is unremarkable. The beer overall is drinkable but not great.

Orangy citrus notes. Undefined notes of spiciness. Warming taste. Wouldn’t buy again.

10/III/13 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: 23/V/13 (2013-231) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!

Clear amber beer, irregular off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: some caramel, hay, bit nutty, sugary, some alcohol, disinfectant. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit spicy, herbal, cardamom, bit sweet, grains. Aftertaste: little sweet, caramel, lots of spices, cardamom, bit sourish. Flying Dog: you lose, Brewdog: you "win", but it’s more of a pity cup you get. Neither of these beers are very good.

Bottle. Pours a deep orange body with a small off-white head. Nose is boozy grass tones, resin, rummy malts and hints of grains. Taste is slightly herbal papery tones, sherry, hints of grape peel and berries. Medium body, soft carbonation. A bit strange and OK, but not more. Not much to the BrewDog effort in this "battle"; the Flying Dog version was absolutely superior and I really don’t get the low ratings it gets.

Clear amber colored pour. No carbonation. No head. No lacing. Big heather aroma. I thought I mistakenly poured a Williams Bros. Heather Ale. Taste is slightly sweet with a huge heather flavor. Some astringency. Better than the other side’s offering. That’s for sure.

Pours a dark orange color with a spicy orange peel aroma. I like this version more than the flying dog version. Flavors blend better.

2013.03.03 - Brewdog/Flying Dog International Arms Race - 11.2oz bottle in pint glass. Bottle marked batch 163 best before 22-05-13. Aroma: as on the label, berries and herbs. Appearance: Pours around 12-16 on SRM scale. Very clear nice mid copper. Not much head/carbonation but a sticky lacy ring, and a few bubbles here and there from bottom. Taste: Follows nose, berry floral notes and spices. A cinnamon-y dryness without obvious cinnamon taste, other herbs I cannot pick out. Interesting. I wouldn't drink a ton of it but I think it may be rated too harshly here at RB. Palate/Mouthfeel: medium light. Aroma 6/10, Appearance 3/5, Taste 5/10, Palate 2/5, Overall 13/20

Rojiza, luminosa. Con muy poca espuma que desaparece rapidamente. Olor a frambuesa y jengibre.

Bottle: Intensive notes of herbs and berries. Sweetish and bitter notes, ginger. Amber color, low head. Flavor is sweetish, very herbal with again ginger notes, vermouth, and a lot more. Nice.
