3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
33 cL bottle. Pours a deep hazzlenut brown with a small tan head. Aroma is dense pinewood hoppy, light alcohol and dark roasted malt. The malt flavours really come through with bread and dense roasted dark caramel. Quite dry and wooden hoppy note mixed into this. Finish has a warmning alcohol note and a mixed bite of the hops and alcohol. Slow sipper and tasty little brew.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. A hazy dark amber with an orangey head. The aroma has strong notes of smoke, over ripe fruits, and salami. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of alcohol, wood, vinegar, smoke, and whiskey as well as notes of hops and over ripe fruits, leading to a dry alcoholic finish, where the alcohol burns the tongue. A bit over the edge for me.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
1st May 2010
Cloudy dark-red brown beer, big frothy tan head. Light palate - dry and a little soft. This is a big beer! Port Wine and Brandy tones immediately obvious but held in check but surprising espresso coffee bitterness. The bitterness ebbs leaving strong spirity malt. Finishes a little dry with minerals, spice and a little cherry. Quite different from the original. Could do with some time though!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap at Churchkey, courtesy of Nahem and Paul, thank you sirs! Clear dark ruby color, thick and solid beige head. Aroma of wood and caramel. Taste of slightly sour brandy and butterscotch. More plain and straightforward than the 2009 version, and shows its strength much more.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. An unclear, dark golden beer with a small, off-white head. Big aroma, meaty and hoppy with a spiced touch. Some citrus and resins too. The flavor too is meaty and sweet, quite bitter and with a slight chalky touch. Warming and full-bodied on the palate, finishing warm and bitter. A rather nice one, too hot and slightly unclean, but a nice sipper it is. 101126
