COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottled, special
In collaboration with the awesome Oskar Blues from Colorado, we’ve created this big, twisted 10.5% American style barley wine. With big boozy aromas that’ll swirl round your nostrils and a sweet viscosity that’ll cover your tongue from top to tip, this is a beer for people who enjoy nonsense and walking on tightropes. Even when the Circus packs up and leaves, you’re left with a lingering warmth and bitterness playing in your month. - See more at: http://www.brewdog.com/product/shipwrecker-circus#sthash.e9vrs12U.dpuf

Pours dark copper with a small head. Nose shows heavy caramel and bready malt, a little golden syrup and some sultanas as well as a bit of booze. Very malty flavours too but with a fair whack of hops too. A lot of caramel, but then the pine and grapefruit rolls through. This combined with the booze detracts from the experience. Carbonation is perhaps a little high.

Draft. Raisin, caramel malt, and light alcohol aroma. Hazy dark amber with small head. Sweet raisin, toffee malt, and moderately bitter alcohol/herbal flavor. Nice - this was the perfect beer for an August beer festival.

Draft - Toffee, chocolate and skunky hops, clearish maroon with a rich beige head. Toffee, sweet caramel light chocolate and a hoppy bitter finish. Well balanced and pretty niced.

Pours an orange frothy head, colour is a cloudy mahogany brown / burnt orange. Smells very hoppy caramelized, brown sugar, biscuity, leathery, wood. Taste has a pronounced american ale like note: both malty and especially hoppy, caramel, biscuity piny bitterness; both sweet and bitter side are very much consistent. Almost full bodied sipper, but with a silky and runny texture, quite present carbonation for being 10.5%. Not particurarly original, but that’s a very nice one

from Au Trappiste - clear brown beer with a modest head retention; very malty with notes of nuts and marzipan; full-bodied, pretty sweet and earthy; a fair bitterness and a long nutty malty and hoppy finish - very good

16 oz can poured a hazy golden amber with a small lasting amber head. Aromas of bread, fruitiness and light earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, fruitiness and earthiness with a smooth dry lingering bitter finish.

Bottle @ home. Dark reddish brown, slim beige creamy head. Imperial nose with big toffee, caramel and honey tones along with hoppy fruitiness. Taste is likewise: big malted, sweet flavours beautifully combining with deep hoppy tropical and citrus fruits and a nice bitterness. Great flavours, complex but still balanced. As it warms, it gets more stout-ish with roasted coffee and chocolate tones coming up along with wine-like properties (red fruits, boozy, more dry). Dry, lingering fruity finish. Oily but soft mouthfeel, big body, medium-low carbonation. Very nice.
