COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottled, special
In collaboration with the awesome Oskar Blues from Colorado, we’ve created this big, twisted 10.5% American style barley wine. With big boozy aromas that’ll swirl round your nostrils and a sweet viscosity that’ll cover your tongue from top to tip, this is a beer for people who enjoy nonsense and walking on tightropes. Even when the Circus packs up and leaves, you’re left with a lingering warmth and bitterness playing in your month. - See more at: http://www.brewdog.com/product/shipwrecker-circus#sthash.e9vrs12U.dpuf
Malts: Extra Pale, Munich, Crystal, Chocolate
Hops: Chinook, Cascade, Citra
Twist: American style Barley Wine brewed with Oskar Blues

From bottle at home. Pours dark red with a brown head. The aroma is quite malty but surprisingly hoppy fresh with citrus tones. Full body, low carbonation, medium bitterness. Really liked this one.

330ml bottle from Hippo Beers. Dark brown, reasonable head. Sweet barley aroma and flavour. Well balanced and smooth. I don’t normally like this type of beer and beer this strong but this is a good one.

330 ml bottle. Red mahogany. Crystal clear. Medium-sized fluffy off-white head. Spicy hops and licorice. Dark caramel malts. Nice hoppy bite. Salty. Nutty flavours. Soft malty flavours, and then an onslaught of hops. Very hoppy, but not over the top. Nice complexity.

Bottle from Brewtique. poured a dark brown with a thinish beige head. Aroma of caramel malts, some fruitcake. I was very drunk when I had this but I thought it was a good barley wine.

Bottle from K-Bar, Reykjavik; batch 235, bb 07-10-18
Dark brown color, apparently cloudy, with medium head. Nice aroma of hop bag, dark caramel, light figs, very light herbs. Round mouthfeel, the body is strong enough; malt flavor, but also a bit too much dark caramel and roasted malt; strong bitterness with a light minty aftertaste.
Dark Barley Wine, powerful, won’t be remember for elegance.

Draft @ BrewDog Manchester. Ripe fruit aroma. Citra hops. Clear red brown with small off-white head. Taste of fruity hops. Bitterness and medium sweetness. Very nice balanced to the sweet side. Finish of aroma hoppiness. Texture is oily. Average carbonation. Great American barley wine.

Mahognyfärgad öl med smutsvitt skum. Doften är torkad frukt, karamell, kryddighet och lättare alkoholsötma. I smaken tillkommer lakrits. Oljig munkänsla.

Bottle, served in a snifter. Pours a very nice ruby red with a brown fizzy head which quickly disappears to a ring, but remains for quite a while. Aroma is malty, slightly toasty, dark fruit, spicy, a fairly strong hoppiness and a bit of alcohol. Before I got chance to taste it I took a small sip but accidentally inhaled it and started choking violently. Anyway the taste is dark fruit, molasses, malts, bit of roasted malt, earthy hops and pine, with a medium bitterness, medium to strong sweetness and a nice warming finish. Medium carbonation, slightly dry and a bit sticky.

Deep but clear red, 1 finger off whit head, large bubbles fading. Malty, familiar smell, not getting much of the hop aroma though? But the flavour :-) Sweet full coating in the mouth, caramel, dense pine and dark fruits, some toast and maple syrup. Very solid BW, but not sure I’d buy too many more of these though - perhaps I’ll put the other 6 down for a while and see what they’re like later down the road.
