COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What does it mean? Yes, what indeed does it all mean. Meaning of course is elusive and illusive. It canít or shouldnít be found on this bottle. Should it? Yet what if it was? Would you begin to look for pearls of wisdom or life direction on a beer label? Perhaps itís been there all along. Since meaning is a mere illusion, perhaps we shouldnít let it have any influence on our destiny. This particular beer refused to succumb to the illusion of meaning or allow capricious parameters to have any influence on its own fermented fate. Are we even asking the right question? Are you feeling frustrated in the emptiness? If so, that could be because someone got to this beer before you, and thus thereís a reason for that emptiness. Itís empty. And if so, perhaps there indeed is not any meaning for you here after all. Style over Substance, or Substance over the scriptures of Style? The latter, thank you very much. Twice.

Dark brown color with a stable, moderate, tan head. Lightly roasted malt with fresh grassy hops in the background. Touches of resin and pine in the nose as well. Malty and roasty in the front. Refreshing hops and hearty, yet crisp malt make this quite enjoyable. Reminds me of Great Danes Cascade Mountain Porter. 3/10

Pour on tap at Tap and Handle, dark reddish black pour with light tan head, aroma brought notes of dark chocolate, molasses, sherry, some slight earth, spice comes into a hint of cherry, dark berry, slight oaky and sweet vanilla notes. Taste was a mix of roast, cocoa, earth into some dark berry, some dark fruits into a bit of oxidized malt with sherry, slight grass, finishing slightly sweet, slightly boozy.

11.2oz bottle, shared with friends. Bottled on 25/12/10, it looks like the label says... Batch 298. Ungh... surprisingly, holding up pretty damn well. Some nice milk chocolate, mild spice. Very dark brown color, has kind of a stout-like appearance. Thin off-white head, good bits of lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp light carbonation, mild chewiness. Dry finish. Touch of oxidization, but itís not distracting, and works well with the dark malt and mild smokey flavors. Moderate to bigger bitter taste, light to moderate sweet, touch of mild sour, some soy sauce. Interesting stuff to try.. Very fun to try for sure. I remember seeing this on the shelf of my early days of beer-rating, and thinking ínah, Iíll save that for laterí, after glancing at the price. I kind of wish I tried it fresh, but nonetheless Iím glad I had an opportunity to try it at all. At least now I know a bit more about what Iím talking about.

Bottle to snifter (shared by DrSilverworm). Looks good; a lightly translucent dark cola with light beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells malty and a little boozy with a bit of roast as well. Tastes like it smells, but less robust, with a medium-bodied mouthfeel thatís a bit thinner than Iíd prefer. Still, solid beer.

Pulled from the cellar...at least 4 years old. Flat, but great flavor. Iím sure the flatness has to do with the cellaring. Whatever style it is, itís a great balance of unique flavors -- not too malty or hoppy.

it was a bit of a hop assault, but not quite ruinous. supposedly a belgian black dbl ipa, but lacking all but a very subtle belgian yeasty presence, and also hoppy - but not quite as hoppy as your typical west coast dbl ipa. spicy fruit, chocolate and nmolasses present in the aroma and flavor as well. poured black with an off white lasting head. the alcohol was prevelant at this age in the flavor as well. warming, but not hot. smooth, with a lingering bitter aftertaste. tastes a little more like a Brewdog beer than a Stone beer, but good either way."

Itís gone quite prune and plummy, goofy esters now. The bullish Belgian vibes throughout arenít quite as grounded with bitterness, warped gassiness and a light liquorice dark tart edge. Smooth and light creaminess - a long ranging busy finish, brassy un-bitter and dirty clove linger.

Bottle at Craigís. Shit the bed, never seen this before. Didnít think I ever would. Cheers birthday boy! Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of wood, light chocolate. Taste is massive chocolate hit, light coffee roast. Medium body, roasted bitter finish.
