3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours hazy copper with a creamy head and gentle lacing. A sweet aroma of honey, caramel, floral hops and a bit of saurkraut. Lightly carbonated and smooth. Taste is malty hoppy sweetness with a slight bitter finish. Smells a little better than it tastes.

3.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma ottimo di luppolo. Allíassaggio risulta molto secca (il malto Crystal nettamente in secondo piano) ed amara (25 IBU ?? x 2?). Sicuramente una birra beverina, senza grosse pretese.

Bottle @ Brugsen, Odense. Pours amber with a creamy white head. At first lots of fresh hops peaks through in the aroma. Peach and Pine. As the beer warms up it gets buttery. Diacetyl/Butter - Unfortunatly. Smooth palate.

Bottle shared with the in-law. Rich amber color, hops in the nose and a nice blend of hops and citrus in a bitter blanket that lasts through the aftertaste. Very nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pretty hoppy for an amber. Nice balance, sweet and bitter, with a medium body and smooth finish. Itís excellent for an amber, though it reminds me much more of a pale ale.

Whatís an Amber Ale? Itís a pale ale brewed with a proportion of crystal malt to give the beer an amber colour. The Americans use the term, the French do as well. We used to use the term in the UK, but havenít really done so for many years. None of the beers that are generally termed Amber Ale fit this beer, so Iím not quite sure what the BrewDog guys are thinking of. This is in the American IPA style - itís rather more hoppy than an APA, though the abv is more in keeping with that style. However, the use of crystal malt has given this a certain dryness and a rough edge and a depth of malt character that is interesting. Usually brewers like to balance big hops with a lot of clean, sweet, juicy pale malt, so this is a little different. It is, though, more of a take on IPA than on Amber Ale - perhaps Imperial Amber Ale? Anyway, it often takes me a while to appreciate BrewDog beers and big hoppy beers, so I donít expect to enjoy this on first visit. And my expectation was fulfilled. Itís drinkable, but itís not my thing. Too dry, and too filtered and lifeless, and too much relying on hops. Beer is about the malt - the hops are a flavouring.

First things first. I love Brew Dog. Seriously. The guys canít make a bad beer. From a Slightly citrussy, toasty nose of grapefruit, honey and figs this moves into an incredibly tasty brew with a rich, round mouthfeel, notes of nutmeg, honey and more citrus, and a long, thirst-quenching, gently bittersweet finish.
