5am Saint is The Holy Grail of red ales. We live in a world of disposable deities. Someone, somehow has managed to press that big, flashing moronic override button and we’re hard wired straight into the pockets of false idols trying to make a quick buck. Sadly, for a lot of people the same mentality applies to beer. But who’s to know what’s worth worshiping when monolithic advertising budgets have you sucked down the rabbit hole in the blink of an eye? At BrewDog we are on a mission to open as many people’s eyes as possible. Cast away any aspersions and let the crook of BrewDog be your guide in a whirlwind of conformity and mediocrity. Once this ruby liquid forms a foamy halo around your glass, you’ll never want to look back.
Malts: Maris Otter, Caramalt, Munich Malt, Crystal and Dark Crystal Malts
Hops:Cascade, Amarillo, Nelson Sauvin, Simcoe, Ahtanum, Centennial
Twist: Loads of late hops and bucket-loads of dry hops

Draught. Malty aroma, pours dark copper. Medium head. Slightly sweet toffee malt, but not too heavy, then a smooth bitterness with a moderately long finish. Not too heavy on the carbonation. Very nice.

Dark amber beer with a white head that disappears quickly, low carbonation. Taste is fruity, raspberry, grapefruit and a mix of other flavors. Good beer especially for only 5% alc, nice.

Uggg. Bad flavor. Redeeming hop qualities then back to bad malt. You can make "red" without making a ugly sweet malt. Interesting that Anchor is involved in importing this - those dudes who bought out, I mean, let Maytag retire on a tropical island, are venturing out. Interesting, but a fail.

With the new designed label, this beer is with the subtitle bitter sweet chaos. Very modern, but anyway pretty much correct name to describe this beer. Fruity caramel notes are dominant. Lovely carbonation. One of the best red colors of all red beers. Hops almost extreme. And, yes, some pines, which is also nice.

On tap, u2p. Dark amber nutty body with high creamy head. Aroma is malty, grainy, touch of caramel. Taste has high caramel fruity sweetness, earthy bitterness. Balanced towards the sweetness with a full body and high carbonation. Different taste from the bottle.

Mooie donkere kleur. Schuimkraag verdwijnt gelijk als je hem inschenkt. Zachte smaak maar niks speciaals.

[6399-20140628] Tap. Mild celery soup aroma. Clear, red amber body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Malty bitter grains flavour has quite a bitter celery burlap note. Medium-full body. Good. (7/4/7/4/15) 3.7

Bottle from Waitrose. Poured a clear, bright amber, with a dense off white head. Aroma of spice, berries and malt. Caramel in the flavour, with some light woody notes and grassy hop. Finish was toffee, peal and straw.
