2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
0.375L bottle, bought at Utobeer, London. Cellared for year. Pours a clear and shiny brownish red, with a low yellowish blond top. A sting of fusel/higher alcohols up front, providing a sharp and raw smell. There is unfortunatley some cardboardy hops in this one, as well. Also a certain spiced, caramelly and harsh nutty malt aroma. Taste is unrefined light sweet and sharp herbal/spicy. Light to medium full. Astringent mouthfeel. Sharp, alcoholic, dry and tanninic finish. I was SO looking forward to this one. Something must have gone big time wrong in my bottle!? I hope I’ll get a second chance to sample this one.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at home, cheers DW. Poured red chestnut colour with a thin tan head. Lovely sugary alcohol tinged aroma which I can imagine some people would mark down for but I love it. Some honey, caramel, lots of lovely hops fruity hop finish. A real treat, will have again if I ever get the chance.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled 375ml (bottle #1885/3600, bottled on 16.06.10, from Utobeer)
Dark amber color, slightly hazy color, small off-white head. Bready hoppy, syrapy aroma. Full-bodied. Sticky syrapy mouthfeel. Bready, ryeish malty, sweet, quite hoppy. Finish has some licorice. Suprisingly quite straighforward and standard barley wine. Alcohol does not disturb, just giving some needed "punch". This bottle is 10 months old, could be cellared much longer. Good barley wine, but for shop price £11.30 overpriced.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
375ml bottle split with mcberko. Pour a rich dark orange/brown. Aroma and flavour of plum, raisins, brown sugar and caramel. Very sweet (which i enjoy) and a surprisingly undetecable ABV. Really nice.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
375mL bottle, pours dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma of plum, dark currants, brown sugar, caramel / toffee and molasses. Flavour of plum, raisins, caramel, toffee, molasses and an immense sweetness - almost cloying. ABV is somehow not noticeable at all at 18% (!). Most wonderful.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Barley wine der skjuler % godt. Godt humlet, med rugbrøds smag, grape, træ og fyrrenål, en rolig vinøs og blød øl, lys rød, uklar med tæt skum, meget sød og meget bitter.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the CP&K at the launch. It pours a hazy dark orange colour with the thinnest off-white head and next to no carbonation. The nose is resin, wood, raisin, caramel and grapefruit. The taste is resin, wood polish, caramel, toffee, dark fruits, dried berry, orange, biscuit and finishes with a harsh alcohol burn. My least favourite out of the Abstrakt range to date, I found it a bit harsh and rough around the edges.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
reddish/ruby colour, clear w/ some bubbles
nose is pink grapefruit and cotton candy w/ faint hop background
surprisingly smooth for 18%.
med body and only faintly fizzy
i can smell and taste the alcohol but as it contributes to flavour, not as an aggressive element
very winey (or maybe champagne) taste w/ great bitter hop finish.
a souped up red ale
no raisin flavour or i’d say it was a barley wine
