Dirty brown to amber beer with a small/loose head. Sweet polleny/honeyish hop nose, massive dryfruitiness (dates, raisins) with sugary apricot jam. Light chocolate note. Some fermented berry notes and alcohol. Sweet malty and aged dryfruity flavor with moderate bitterness. Hides alcohol surprisingly well. Oily and thick texture with flat carbonation. Simple BW with nice hop character.

375ml bottle split with mcberko. Pour a rich dark orange/brown. Aroma and flavour of plum, raisins, brown sugar and caramel. Very sweet (which i enjoy) and a surprisingly undetecable ABV. Really nice.

To me really has changed from an imperial red ale to an English style barleywine. Still had a bit of pine like hop taste but the deeper I got into it it had a lot of caramel, sherry, fair amount of booze, little to no carbonation. Good looking dark amber color and had developed quite well. Slick and sticky in the mouth. A touch on the sweet side but pretty good overall

Bottle #942 of 3600 shared with Travlr. Highs: great hops with fruit in the background. Wow. Taste is amazing; fruity, pineapple, apples. Great. Lows: strong alcohol in the aftertaste.

Bottle shared with (and great courtasy of) the fantastic Bergen tasting crew with such stars as ClubGonzo, Inbreak and Palme, and the mighty StoreMy. The beer is a bit unclear and is amber with a very small off-white head. In the nose I sence leather, oak, dried fruits, and this perfumy smell towards alcohol. In addition, it has a touch of cat piss. Personally I think it is unattractive when it becomes too much of this, but in this case is held nicely in check by the rest of the aroma. The taste also offers dried fruits and leather, but also spices, wood, and a little alcohol. The beer feels a bit dry towards the end with a medium bitterness. Feels soft and smooth in the mouth, and is a straightforward, fairly bitter barley wine.

375ml. Another home run from Brewdog. The aroma on this is just sick. Huge pineapple and grapefruit rind. I wasn’t expecting this at all. The alcohol is dominated by the hops in the nose, which is a very good thing. Doesn’t smell boozy like you expect from a beer of 18%. Pours a burnt red with a large foamy head that leaves nice lacing. Flavor is slightly funky. Huge alcohol is actually not as present as you expect. Its got some burn but nothing near what it should be, you get a massive amount of fruit balanced by chewy vanilla caramel malts. Suprisingly well balanced. Light booziness and lingering bitterness thats not to aggressive. I really dug this, much more than I expected. Very well done. And the aroma was just absolutely amazing. I smelled this beer for a good 10 minutes before I took a sip.

30/06/2011 Birra+ (375ml bottle). Degustazione da Birra+. Rossa, intensa, buona schiuma biancastra, poco persistente.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2010 An interesting one this. On appearance a session mild meets a brown ale. Very dry hopped. Perhaps too much for me hense the lesser review. Nice caramel texture with a hint of red and a lovely throthy head. Taste wise I recieved bags of caramel; sweet crystal malts and for some reason pears. I’m not particularly fond of pears so that didn’t hit the spot for me. The vanilla was noticable however thought it could do with more. A very intersting beer indeed. Thanks especially to Tom for the event and to the Brewdog guys. That means a lot. Thanks also for giving to us Londoners first instead of Systembloget. Much appreciated. Hardcore was absolutely banging last night and need to amend my review.

Aroma: A lot of smell in this one, a hoppy haze with sweet grape-fruits, soy sauce, peas and some tea.
Appearance: A clouded light brown, an off-white small head, no lacing and small curtains.
Taste: A sweet bread start, apricots, sherry, even alcohol, bitter grape-fruit seeds.
Palate: Little carbonation, soft and smooth, a big body, a small dry finish.
Overall: Not an easy brew, a bit unbalanced.
Note: Bottle 375 ml. Reviewed 2012-01-21.
