3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ClubGonzo (2695) - Bergen, NORWAY - APR 13, 2012
Bottle, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew’s Epic Abstrakt/Blåbær tasting, feat. special guests Foffern and StoreMy. :-) Deep amber body, tiny off-white head. Aroma is boozy tones with caramel, wood and sweet malts with hints of dried fruits. Taste is sharp alcoholic wooden notes with caramel and Norwegian brown cheese being the most prominent flavors. Hints of cellar must and dark malty sweetness. A bit too boozy, but OK.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JUL 10, 2010
On tap at the Cask Pub & Kitchen, 15th June 2010 - the launch event. Deep reddish copper with a foamy off white head. Nose of caramel sugars and resinous hops. Some alcohol but definitely less than you’d expect, at least at first. As it warms, the booziness comes through. In the mouth, it’s a similar story. This really does feel like 5AM Saint amped up - lots of alcohol, some red berries, sugary orange and toffee. Palate is rich and full without being heavy, without being harsh. It’s very bitter without many hop flavours making themselves known. I found it a bit disappointing as I was expecting to be challenged more with some confrontational flavours. This is best described as "6pm Saint".
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 pilsnerrogge (2271) - Finspång, SWEDEN - AUG 22, 2010
Bottle 3338 of 3600: Deep brownish red colour. Head is large but sinks pretty fast. Sweet toffee aroma with notes of liquorice and alcohol. Sweet and sticky flavour with notes of wood and alcohol. A little bit too strong for its own good.
1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 JohnRMurdoch (2253) - Glasgow, SCOTLAND - JAN 18, 2012
Bottle from Peckham’s Rye. Dirty cloudy dark brown colour, not much head. Sour grassy hop aroma. Strong complex roasted coffee, malt & barley flavour. Lingering strong aftertaste. Not my sort of beer.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tiong (2238) - Espoo, FINLAND - JUN 3, 2011
375ml bottle from Systembolaget
Bottled on 16.06.2010, bottle 3177 of 3600
Pours dark brownish red with a sticky head. Heavy aroma with notes of alcohol, hops and caramel. Taste starts out sweet but malts and hops kick in fast. Bitter and quite sweet finish. Has hints of caramel, fruits and oaky vanilla. Alcohol is well hidden but warms nicely in the finish. A bit unbalanced, but quite complex and enjoyable one.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 armando629 (2206) - Budapest, HUNGARY - OCT 19, 2012
0,375 l bottle, courtesy of Balazs, thanks!
Poured murky amber with a small white creamy head. Aromas of a candy sugar, cocoa, alcohol, raisins and herbs. Oily charactew, green leaves, strong alcohol, plum. Sweet because alcohol. Sweet....
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 jesperhammer (2203) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 23, 2011
20-MAY-2011, bottle @Marielyst sommerhus with Morten, from "Ølbutikken".
Pours murky brown with almost no head.
Extremely bitter nose with grape fruit and pine.
Taste is the same but really loaded with malts in the form of charamel, rye bread, and fruits.
Really dessert wine-like.
Love the malty body.
I thought this would be an IIPA, but it comes out as a barley with an extreme bitterness more than an IIPA with with malty sweetness.
And it is sweet but never cloying.
Alcoholic, but hey...it’s 18%...
Love this extreme drink. Not a very refined brew but certainly a very tasty one.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 77ships (2156) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - AUG 22, 2012
Thx. to Gene for this one // 375 ml. bottle, caged with a plastic cork // love the design on these bottles, simple but... these guys really know marketing // bottled 16.06.2010 // bottle nr. 985 / 3600 // tasted after #1 // age also hasn’t been kind to this one // less exited about this one than # 1 - most seem to have liked this one more // I wasn’t crazy about any of them // murky dark brown with little white head // smells aged, sweet caramel, toffee, lots of spices, hints of hop, rather sweet // tastes of candy, aged, tad plastic, malts, lots of heavy caramel, dried fruits, hint spice and some remnants of hops, warming but not much in the way of booze especially for an 18 % // this series doesn’t appear to have been build to last, probably was more interesting fresh
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 scraff (2121) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - AUG 1, 2010
Courtesy of Steve Jones - Pratt St. Ale House Brewmaster. Deep crimson, thick creamy white head. Intense tropical fruit and pine aromas ride a sturdy backbone of grassy-mint and soft chocolate throughout. Thick musky pine and citric hop assault rounds well with a soft blackened vanilla-toffee fade. ABV warms, but hides well in the end. Full bodied, medium carbonation, bittersweet finish. A great sipper…

At a tasting, thanks Oren, pours red to brown with a small head, aroma of cherries, bursting alcohol, Werters candy, wood and strawberry jam, flavor of wood, lots of hops, slightly smoked with loads of alcohol, medium to full bodied, who need 18% ABV in a beer
