Beeronaut (169) - - OCT 15, 2010
Pours out transparent red with an orangey colour to it and a beige bubble bath looking head. Aroma from the bottle is quite nice and the aroma starts well in the glass but quickly seems to fade just leaving a carbonated metali aroma. First up you get the lovely raspberry aroma with a touch of cream soda in the back ground and the tinniest hint of strawbs, but the raspbs dominate. Not really much of a the whisky on the nose, the faintest trace of spirit perhaps, but not at all boozy. Flavour once again starts with the dominant Raspbs, moving to a slightly tart, but more over bitternece in the mids which persists and becomes stronger into the finish joined by a vague warmth from the whisky. The bitterness becomes a bit overwhelming and, I feel, smothers some of the more interesting flavours. It feels much akin to when you accidently get cologne on your tongue, not to pleasant. The abv is hidden very well, and the mouthfeel is just right for the style, lovely and light and effervescent, almost mouse like at times, making this more like a sparkling wine than beer, as so I’m drinking it from a flute. This has been reported to me as the least favourite of the 3 so far, and I really wanted to back the trend, but I have to agree. It’s a bit confused and lack direction. It could do with being either sweeter, or if not then tarter and more sour, it could definitely do with out that bitterness which feels like the spirit and beer conflicting with some clumsey musty oak getting in the way. Most frustratingly, I think this could have been the most interesting of the three, but has just lost it’s way. Roll on AB:04 I say.

Foffern (285) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAY 4, 2012
Bottle shared with (and great courtasy of) the fantastic Bergen tasting crew with such stars as ClubGonzo, Inbreak and Palme, and the mighty StoreMy. Has an amber colour and is slightly cloudy with a relatively small bubbly off-white head. The aroma has a distinct character of Belgian yeast and is sweet. Reminds me really much of sweet wine gums with strawberries. Towards the end feels wood, oak, and is slightly perfumy. In the flavour I find both sweet and sour berries, strawberry candy, crowberries, and a somewhat berry bitterness be the end. Light to medium bitterness with a smooth and soft mouth feel. A very distinctive and special beer with a wonderful aroma, but is ok on taste.

375 ml bottle. Bottled on 08.09.2010. Bottle no. 2523/3200.
Pours hazy amber color with small head. Aroma has a humongous amount of berries, raspberry, bilberries, strawberries, mild hose hip and some fruity notes. Flavor of fruits, raspberries, bilberries, strawberries, some cherries, yeast and some grass. Quite fruity to say the least, bitter and somewhat sour palate.

37,5 cl bottle @ lusikka. Bottle #2523, bottled on 08.09.2010.
Aroma has strawberries and some raspberries – how surprising. Flavour is rather fruity and strong on strawberries, some raspberries and hops. Tart finish. Unlike 01 or 02, this has some CO2 on palate. Really weird and fruity stuff.

Bottle, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew’s Epic Abstrakt/Blåbær tasting, feat. special guests Foffern and StoreMy. :-) Deep orange hazy body, small white head. Nose is stunning: whiskey-soaked sorbet with tart raspberries, blackberries and hints of overripe strawberries. Hints of oak and vanilla. Amazing. Taste is a bit of a letdown: astringent, herbal bitter tones, parching dry tones of red berries and hints of whiskey and wood. Doesn’t really work, at least not compared to the wonderful aroma. Medium mouthfeel, mild carbonation. Truly original, bordering on "weird". Pretty nice, but no winner.

TheCametron (791) - SCOTLAND - APR 4, 2012
Bottle at Bens. Reddy brown with a rapidly disappearing white head. Funky nose. Raspberry and malt. Lots of sour fruit on the flavour. The whisky is there but surprisingly, doesn’t dominate. It’s fairly well balanced. It’s interesting. I’m guessing they won’t break their promise and brew this one a second time like they did with the AB:04.

Bottle. Pours dark copper with short lasting white head. Syrupy aroma, strawberry comes through most with toffee, molasses and light whisky, touch of alcohol, slighty herbal, slighty medicinal Taste is a balanced blend of strawberry, caramel and whisky, again slightly medicinal with alcohol in the finish. Sweet with a bit of a burn on the end. I remember this being better when it first came out

EdKing (936) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 1, 2012
Bottle from Utobeer. Had this a little while. Seriously tough to get the cork out. Pours red, touch orangey, hazy and lots of bits floating in it. Nose is fragrantly fruity with raspberry, peach and mango. Underneath the sour raspberry notes that are dominating it’s quite malty caramel. Taste is a mix of fragrant sour red fruit, raspberries, caramel malt, and some hop bitter. A lot of raspberry. It’s interesting but not really that well balanced. Sipping it but not embracing it.
