(Bottle, thanks mybestfriend) Pours black with a small brown head. The aroma is of aromatic coffee, dry cocoa and spicy chilly, go figure. There is also room for hops, soy meat, and tar asphalt. I like the nose; it’s extreme in every direction without being over the top. The flavour is heavily sweet (sucralose-like), medium bitter and medium acidic. Soy, syrup, roasted malt, sweet liquorice and caramelized meat. The mouthfeel is heavily syrupy and light carbonated. Lingering coffee roasted and super sweet finish. Full bodied.

Bottle from the brewery. Old ropes, liquorice, coffee and molasses. Smooth mocca, cherries. Vienous. Amazingly well balanced, lingering coffee finish.

Sampled at SBWF-10 Pitch black with a beige head. Vinous with coffee-beans, chocolate and coffee. Maybe some chili-notes. Oily palate.

375ml bottle, 1399 of 3300. Pours pitch black with no head. Loads of legs. Aroma is malty chocolate and some spicy fruit, which I’m guessing us the chilli. Bourneville and chilli. Taste is spicy chocolate to start and cocoa chilli next. Warmth on the finish from both the chilli and alcohol. Loads of booze.

In bottiglia all’O Connor, smezzata col gestore; 15 euro ben spesi. Colpisce per la sua similitudine con i pocket coffee, caffè alcool e cioccolato, e nonostante i 15 gradi alcolici è beverina seppur spessa. Birra da circo, ma molto molto buona

Bottle at Cask Pub and Kitchen. Quite dark and thick appearance with a decent head at first, but not the greatest retention. The chili is more evident in the aroma and doesn’t really add much heat overall. Nice rich chocolate and coffee in the aroma and flavor. Surprisingly not very much burn from the alcohol. Nice thick body, which was always something that I felt paradox lacked. Nice beer overall with a good balance of pepper and chocolate/coffee roasty flavors.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2010 Drunk On Tap At Brewdog Aberdeen. Very viscous pour, subtle spicy tingling nose, huge body full of chocolate and coffee. Smooth as silk and the alcohol is nigh unnoticeable. Dark fruit, and warming at the end. All prior samples of chilli influenced beers have been terrible but this is amazing

Really strong chocolate taste, not too overpowering on the chilli, very well balanced. Thick black colour, but maybe a bit thin on the texture. Really just stunning.

Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm. Opaque picth black, small beige head. Chocolatey nose with madeira and brandy. Sweet and viscous with full body and compact mouthfeel. Port and chocolate, some coffee. Warming finish. Very concentrated flavour, potent and sweet like liqueur.

[375ml bottle, BrewDog tasting, Cloisters Bar] Tasted at the BrewDog Christmas party held at Cloisters in Edinburgh. Pours very black indeed, no real head to speak of, just a mild lacing at the edges of the glass. Fantastic aromas – roasted dark malts, chocolate, bitter coffee beans and a punch from the alcohol and chilli. The taste is like 100% dark chocolate – bitter roast, a hint of sweetness – before the alcohol burn from the high abv and a noticeable (but not overpowering) edge from the chilli. Really well balanced flavours. Apparently Martin at BrewDog regards this as their best beer – I may well be in agreement [01122010]
