4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
[375ml bottle, BrewDog tasting, Cloisters Bar] Tasted at the BrewDog Christmas party held at Cloisters in Edinburgh. Pours very black indeed, no real head to speak of, just a mild lacing at the edges of the glass. Fantastic aromas – roasted dark malts, chocolate, bitter coffee beans and a punch from the alcohol and chilli. The taste is like 100% dark chocolate – bitter roast, a hint of sweetness – before the alcohol burn from the high abv and a noticeable (but not overpowering) edge from the chilli. Really well balanced flavours. Apparently Martin at BrewDog regards this as their best beer – I may well be in agreement

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle #1491/3300 brought back by a friend. Pitch black viscous pour with a medium light brown chocolate milk head. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, dark fruit, a pepper character that I mistook for the green bell pepper character found in a lot of coffee beers (until I read the description), roasted malt and meat. Flavor is sweet beef jerky, coffee, bitter dark chocolate and a chile pepper finish. Not bad overall, but a bit too sweet in the flavor.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Medium dark brown body. Opaque black body. Deep harmonic roasty coffee aroma with toffee notes. Dry-sweet roasty dark chocolate and coffee taste. Full-bodied. Hot, soft mouthfeel. Dry coffee grounds and mint aftertaste with honey notes. Excellent! Harmonic, full, rich, and complex. Really a great beer. (0.375l bottle shared by KnutAlbert.)

Bottled @ cgarvieuk. Black colour no head. Aroma is dark roasted malts, coffee, little creaminess, a bit spicy. Viscous and oily. Flavour is heavy roasted malts, strong coffee, little head. A bitter and deep roastiness, and a little afterburn. Great stuff.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle 37,5 cl. Pours black as original Sin with a creamy brownish head. Intense, sweet and fairly complex aroma of hard roasted malt, plenty of raisins, some coffee notes and a light tartness. Very full-bodied, low carbonation but far from flat, again flavours of hard roasted malts, coffee notes and dark dried fruits while the chilies only leave a light prickly sensation on my tongue. Some warming alcohol heat in the finish. A bit of a monster really, but a nice monster! Actually surprisingly subtle and well balanced for a beer this strong. 101110

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. I thought this was absolutely brilliant. Wonderful roasted malt aroma, with hints of cocoa and mocha. Palate is full bodied, yet seems fairly dry for a Imperial Stout, with some slight warmth/heat, I’m guessing from the chilly. Flavour seems to go on forever. Lots of mocha and roasty cocoa flavours coming through. Really good balance (as far as extreme Imperial Stouts go). Love it a lot.

Holy toledo, this is an amazing beer. Strikingly similar to Hunahpu’s. For a fantastic description of this stout, scroll down to Darkguardian’s review. By the way, a big thanks to Chris for sharing not one but two bottles of this bad boy at the District.....

Bottle… This beer rocks!… Tar black ale with a small, creamy, brown head. Decent retention. The aromatics exude chocolate, caramel, smoke, peppers and a dab of butterscotch. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and dancing carbonation. The flavor is ridiculously sweet, yet I’m not offended. Some nice mocha and caramel in here. Also, I get mild pepper flavor, but no heat. Sweet mocha and butterscotch finish. Much thanks to darkguardian for sharing this gem!
