3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 hopscotch (8212) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - APR 19, 2011
Bottle… Pours black with little to no head. The aroma is a marriage of blackstrap molasses, licorice, vintage port and pecan pralines. Full-bodied and fatty with modest carbonation. The flavor is sweet and vinous with notes of dark chocolate, brown sugar, espresso and blackstrap molasses. Sweet, chocolaty, brown sugar finish. The word “sweet” is used far too often in this rating… hence, this brew is just too sweet for me to fully enjoy. Still, a fine offering. Kudos to the ever-generous darkguardian for my sample!

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 BeerCast_Rich (1678) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - FEB 24, 2011
[keg at Holyrood 9A, Edinburgh launch event] Pours thick dark black - it sucks light from the room in a menacing fashion. Rich and viscous and with almost no head from the keg, the aromas are pretty weighty, as you’d expect. Dark chocolate and booze, a touch of smoke - not much coconut on the nose. Or the taste really, I struggled to pick out the coconut at all. At first it’s bitter, then the sherry and rum-like sweetness appears and leads into a smoky aftertaste with a really long finish. Hints of mocha coffee at the end, with maybe that touch of coconut - it’s complex stuff indeed. Good, but definitely not as good as the AB:04 [22022011]
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 VsXsV (1220) - Linköping, SWEDEN - AUG 25, 2011
375 ml bottle. Pitch black liquid with small tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, belgian esters, dark berries and maybe very light coconut. Taste is sweet with medium bitterness and lots of chocolate and coffee. Quite burnt. Full bodied with light carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. Quite good imp stout, not boozy at all but not one of the best I’ve had. Balanced.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Punsch416 (10) - Rättvik, SWEDEN - JUN 3, 2011
Pours a thick black liquid with a nut brown head that disappears after a few minutes. The aroma is rich with hints of soy sauce, dark chocolate, roasted malts, worcestershire sauce and muscovado sugar. The toasted coconut is nowhere to be found in the aroma. The taste is almost like coffee with too much sugar added. The beer also got a fruit to it that i sense in most of Brewdogs imperial stouts. Overall a good an complex beer with much going on in the noose but the taste is overwhelmed by an almost suffocating sweetness. This beer took me a while to finish.
