Bottle. Pours a nice pitch black, with a finger thick head. Aroma is coffee, with good notes of tropical fruits, mango, peach and some honey. A full, oily body, with soft carbonation. Tremendous bitter hop flavour, with a fruity touch of orange peel, balanced by a backbone of solid malty notes of coffee, dark chocolate, caramel and syrup. Finishes of with a nice sweet burned, coffee bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a dark murky brown with a tan head and no visible carbonation. Aroma of lots of sweet malts, tropical fruits, roasted, caramel and toffee. Flavour is the same as above, including orange peel. The hops had lasted quite well considering the age (consumed February/March 2011) The ABV was very nice worked in. Zero carbonation which I love - smooth mouth feel. Great flavours, a good beer, but not exceptional.

Clear caramel to brown coloured beer, nice beige irregular head, pretty stable, little adhesive. Aroma: sweet caramel, lots of exotic fruits, pineapple, passion fruit, ripe mango, some honey, floral notes, bit sugary, little piny. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet fruity start, caramel, sugar, lots of ripe sweet fruits, lychee, mango, canned peaches, canned pineapple, citrus, little bitter, some mocha. Aftertaste: bit piny, bitter hops, some caramel, sugary, still very fruity.

Bottle from Malting Pot in Brussels and shared with tderoeck. Nose is fairly hoppy, piney, with lots of caramel present. Pours a real dark burgundy to brownish with small but lasting beige head. Flavor is great and lasts for a while on the tongue. Starts with grapefruit and piney hops up front and transitions into sweet dark caramel before getting to a nice bitter finish. I was surprised by how balanced this is and while the alcohol is noticeable it doesn’t detract. Solid beer from BrewDog, but not sure I’d buy again considering the price.

A lovely smooth black IPA. The first example I’ve tried in this style and it is very impressive. The aroma is of rich dark fruity notes, the taste is hop forward, caramel and again dark fruit. The mouth feel is velvety and medium to thick. It coats your mouth and the flavour lingers but suprisingly for a beer of this alcohol volume you get no burn at the back of your throat. A great beer to sip on.
