Bottle bought from BrewDog Manchester. Pours a very dark black, very little carbonation, quite a big, brown head. Smells fruity, mainly grapefruit and mango. Quite a malty start with the citrus fruits coming in soon after, malts continue to the finish which is quite bitter. Thick and oily mouthfeel, a very good beer, though there are better black IPAs out there for a lot less. Not really encouraged to try the Abstrakt series again.

Dark brown color, almost black, with creamy beige head. Chocolatey aroma, yeasty, cheesy, woody. Good chocolate flavor, with a touch of bitter herbs, moderate sweetness, woody, complex; bitter liquor impression too. Excellent.

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2015 In the final analysis, my favorite of the Abstrakt series (up to #17 anyway!). Back near its release date, this beer hit a blending of hops and dark heavier tastes that was hard to beat. Dark roasted malt, plums, leather and dates create an impressive backbone, but fruit-based hops fight their way though to bring out the Imperial IPA profile. Deep and complex. Just a warning - some recently opened bottles had lost the hop punch with a touch of sourness creeping into the aftertaste. My rating pertains to early tastings of the beer.

big, big big caramel, cereal, earthy, smoke, woody aromas from apitch black think looking body with some tan lacing, body like a whiskey without the harshness, the taste is extremely subtle, slight floral notes, burnt toast, slight caramelness, no hint of any alcohol... found this in a place in france, they had lots more....this was bottle 4277

375ml bottle from Cornelius, who found it down the back of a metaphorical sofa after a stock-take, so thanks to James, and to fate! Pours black, very thin off-white head, nice tight bubbles. Aromas of resin, liquorice, pine, light sherry/oxidised note though, but not unpleasant. Taste is more of the same, some tar, molasses. Quite a thin body, but a nice long bitter finish.

375ml bottle with a black cork, no.6122/8972, bought at Vinmonopolet Vika more than three years ago. Oily pour revealing a low, bubbly, off-white head. Clear rosewood coloured body. Smell of dried fruits like prunes and raisin with a touch of oak. Sweet taste of berries, dried fruit, oak and earth. Drying bittersweet ending with warming alcohol. Sherry impression. Full bodied. Slow sipper that gets a tad too sweet in the long run (shared with Finn, Tromsø 10.12.2014).

Flaske # 6122/89730 375ml. Spandert av og delt med Rune på Nerstranda 10 Des. 14. Tungåpnet! Svakt skudd. Ultradyprød/amber. Bobler i glasset. Veldig lavt skum. Rik plommearoma. Preg av sherry. Smaken likeså. Søt frukt. Et skikkelig koseøl.

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown, almost beer without any head on top. Aroma of alcohol, roast, chocolate and toffee. Flavor is very sweet, also some light bitterness detected in the back. The alcohol is quite overpowering and warming. Never thought aging a black IPA would work out so nice. Low carbonation, silky mouthfeel. Good stuff.

Des dattes, raisins secs, cassonade et chocolat blanc réunis dans le même liquide pour se faire piéger par des houblons terreux et herbacés à la vigueur lointaine. définitivement pas ce qu’elle était mais franchement intéressante quand même.
