small frothy white head. fair lacing. mostly diminishing. flat thick light amberish-brown body (it’s actually hard to describe this hue). aroma: heavy roasted nutty malt, milk chocolate, mild coffee, raisin, wood. if: moderate sweet bitter. ff: moderate sweet heavy bitter; long duration. palate: medium body, oily texture, medium carbonation, chalky heavy alcoholic finish. Baixa drinkability. 320 s

37,5 cl bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Bottle 7546 of 7902. Bottled 06.12.11. Pours first golden then turns to murky deep amber with a small fizzy light brown head that leaves quickly. Aroma of figs, plums and some notes of Madeira. Taste is dark fruits with some hints of wood. Long warming aftertaste. Low carbonation, medium body, medium bitterness. Strange but cool

375 ml bottle. Bottled on 06/12/11. Bottle #1908 of 7902. From brewdog.com.
Cloudy amber colour with a tiny off-white head. Pepper, berries, bitterness and roasted malt in the aroma. The flavour is very strong. Alcohol, a truckload of sweetness and strong bitterness. Not very tasty. Too sweet and too boozy.

Bottle, # 7662. Pours dark golden with a small head. Aroma is caramel malts with some alcohol, as well as grain and heather. Creamy body with soft carbonation. Flavour is sweet with roasted malts, toffee, grain and kandi, as well as a nice fruitiness with apricot and orange peel sticking through the finish.

Bottle split at the Pig’s Ear Cellar, Richmond, 29/06/13. #3338/7902. Hazed dark amber with no head. Nose is dark toffee, light booze, earthy, woody notes, dark fruit. Taste comprises dark fruits, touch of chocolate, rich toffee, booze, light liqourice, does of honey, brown sugars. Full bodied, fine carbonation, slightly viscous boozey finale but smooth and drinkable with it. Solid work.

You really get the feeling of drinking something special, but this one lacks a bit harmony between the bitterness and sweetness to reach all the way to the top. It’s delicate, winy and great, with enough bitterness and sweetness to kill a man...

I would assume that a brewery puts hard-to-remove plastic corks on their bottles for a reason. Maybe because they are of exquisite quality and allow the beer to be stored and matured for years and years? Or maybe because they’re cool and makes the bottle look expensive and the brewery doesn’t care about the quality? I fear that the latter is the case here, because when I start to pour the medium brown copper-ish liquid it looks close to flat, as was the case for the AB:06 I had a few weeks ago. The head, if I can use that term, is tiny and consists of a fully covering film with a few big bubbles sailing on top. Virtually no lacing is left on my glass. The very strong aroma is a strange and unfresh mix of seriously overripe fruits, dark caramel and chocolate. Very unusual, but at the same time quite interesting! The taste is very sweet, and the moderate bitter finish balances the sweetness quite ok. The flavour profile is not unsurprisingly very special. I’ve never tasted anything like this before, so kudos for being innovate! I get overripe fruits, dark dried fruits like raisins, sherry, herbs and in the back dark chocolate, dark caramel and citrus. The mouthfeel is partially ruined by the almost completely flat carbonation, but I can imagine that the full body, the lovely vinous alcoholic feel and the oily texture would have been stunning with some bubbles. A strange and interesting beer.
[37.5 cl bottle (#7593/7902), enjoyed 1.5 years after bottling, from Vinmonopolet Storo, Oslo]
