AB:09 is a 17.1%, Cranachan Imperial Stout, brewed in September 2011, and has been peacefully maturing in our amazing single grain whisky barrels since. The Cranachan Imperial Stout was inspired by the famous Scottish desert, and was brewed with a mountain of dark malts, loads of oats, Scottish heather honey and local raspberries. The beer was then transferred to oak casks to mature for 6 months.

Bottle shared with dad and uncle Siem. Opaque pitch black color, small dark brown head. Aroma is malts, roast, alcohol, liquor. Taste malts, roast, liquor, wood, difinite whiskey influence. Heavy, very heavy. Rough malt, whiskey, alcohol, roast. Well, I’d say this is too much. Too heavy. Drinkable still, but imo too much.

Flaske 375ml (nr. 5599 av 5774) spandert av Rune. Delt på Nerstranda 27 Okt 15. Svart. 0 skum. Kjempegod aroma av svisker. Oljeaktig munnfølelse. Smaken ekstremt innholdsrik. Her savnes ingen ting. Svakt syrlig etter hvert. Her er det bare å lene seg tilbake og nyte til eller som dessert.

375ml corked bottle, no.5599 of 5754, bought somewhere in Manchester three years ago. Shared with Finn. Close to jet black body, naked black surface, fragile lacing. Inviting whisky-like aroma, including dried fruits, oak, bread, and chocolate. Powerful taste profile of raisin, prunes, chocolate, honeyed bread, and wood. Long-lived and warming ending with smooth bitterness of red berries. Oily palate. Surprisingly easy to drink. Delicious sipper lingering all the way home and into the night (Tromsø 27.10.2015).

Bottle. The only thing this beer needs is more carbonation. Right now it has none. Otherwise it is a wonderfully balanced imperial stout with subtle note of raspberry. What more ca I say? This one took the ageing gloriously, I only wish for more CO2.

Bottle, shared by Gurthnar, many thanks. Pours nearly black color, nearly no beige head. Aroma of coffee, roasted mal, chocolate, cherries, hints of alcohol. Taste is sweet, cherry, coffee, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, warming alcohol.

The Aroma is quite subdued. The taste isn’t. Flavours of port, roasted malt, some spices, tar, liquorice, red fruit, wood and spices are prominent. raisins, pepper and some booziness add to the complexity. A soft, creamy, yet spicy mouthfeel and a touch of oiliness add to the gammut of tastes blended in this beast of an imperial stout. This one will age well.

375ml bottle [#2544/5754]. Jet black colour with no head, some tan-coloured bubbles gather at the bezel. Sweet-ish dark malty aroma, notes of treacle, vanilla, oak, some raspberry in the background, a Marmite touch. Taste is sweet dark malty, notes of treacle and vanilla, yeasty spicy overtones, some Marmite; flat carbonation, soft palate, superbly hidden alcohol. Would have liked more raspberry, what probably had necessitated earlier consumption; I assume the fruity raspberry flavours have widely gone, whereas the peppery spicy portion shows up in the notes identified as Marmite.

375ml bottle, #4821. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a thin brown lacing. Complex, developed aroma, roasted malt, raspberries, wood, coffee, herbs. Semi-sweet, full bodied, mid to high bitterness, low CO2. Complex, roasted taste, chocolate, caramel, oats, raspberries, wood, hints of smoke. The alcohol is surprisingly well hidden and integrated. Despite the ABV, though, the four years in bottle was apparently a little too much, and the beer has passed its peak, and started to slide downhill. (2015-07-03)

Black, no head. Aroma of liquorice and port. Tastes like some sort of fortified wine, fruity and boozy with a slightly salty finish. Completely flat with quite a rich mouthfeel. Whiskey barrel aged port?

Bottle @ home. Aged 3 years. Almost black with almost no head. Sweet vinous aroma almost port wine like with notes of cherries, raspberries, grapes, oak, warming alcohol, cocoa, pear. Smooth texture, big mouth feel and warming alcohol in taste. Taste also is port wine like with notes of dry oak, fruity cherries, pleasant vanilla, whiskey, caramel, leather. Lingering woody bitterness.
