COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
AB:09 is a 17.1%, Cranachan Imperial Stout, brewed in September 2011, and has been peacefully maturing in our amazing single grain whisky barrels since. The Cranachan Imperial Stout was inspired by the famous Scottish desert, and was brewed with a mountain of dark malts, loads of oats, Scottish heather honey and local raspberries. The beer was then transferred to oak casks to mature for 6 months.

Smell of smoke and dark fruits with some oaky backnote. Pitch black with no Head. A bit like oil. Dark fruits in the taste as well with a dry and smokey aftertaste. Nice sour/bitterness from the rasberries puts a sweetness to this very masculine beer. Low in carbonation and the perfect match to a friday night indoors while the rain is pooring outside:) good choice for a celebration. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2nd tasting since 2012: The honey and raspberries have come through with raging, however paradoxically it is a less sweet beer, very oaky

375 ml bottle to snifter (shared by Ferris). Looks solid; pretty still though. A fairly opaque dark coffee with razor-thin beige lacing. Smells good; dark malt, chocolate, booze, honey, and oak. Intense, but nice. Tastes like it smells, but not quite as balanced, and without the honey. Solid on the palate; a bit thinner than I’d expect for the abv though. Big boi beer.

Bottle - Molasses, boozy Whisky and some anise. Jet black with no head. Sweet honey, liquorice, dark fruit and some light Whisky notes. Boozy and oily. For something this old still very big and potent.

Bottle #1433, April 2012. Big black pour, slight red tinge, small ring of head. Aroma is mostly port and sherry, some chocolate, a big dose of alcohol, a touch of Pot Noodle oxidation. Body is medium to full, smooth with just a touch of carbonation. Taste is smooth malts, tangy alcohol, just a touch of red berry, sharp alcoholic finish. Smoother than expected for a 17%er. Very slow drinking, and lacks the complexity that you’d expect from a beer this big.

1/VIII/14 - 37.5cl bottle @ Belgo-Swedish Crazy Summer Trade Tasting - BB: n/a, bottled: 2/IV/12, bottle # 4783/5754 (2014-868) Thanks to hackobock for sharing the bottle!

Clear dark brown to black beer, small aery beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: cheesy smell from the bottle. In the glass it’s much more roasted, yeasty, caramel, sweet, dried fruits, bit nutty, hazelnuts, little fruity. MF: ok carbon, full body, lots of alcohol burn in the throat. Taste: sweet start, pretty sour, raspberries, fruity, chocolate, little bitter, mocha. Aftertaste: sweet, caramel, lots of alcohol, chocolate, sugary, cocoa powder, mocha, coffee touch, sourish, raspberries.

Fantastisk!
