3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
A mahogany colored pour with an off-white head. Somewhat nutty aroma. Lots of toffee, some caramel, and a bit of cocoa. Quite a bit of alcohol, too. Not much in the way of barrel character. Sweet toffee and caramel malt flavor profile. A bit of toasted nuts, some chocolate, and a mild vanilla note. Some hints of fruit and light alcohol on the finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle 7818 from mi-orge, mi-houblon. Pours almost pitch black dark ruby with almost no head. Cork had to be encouraged out, very little initial carbonation. Nose is red vinous, milk chocolate, oak, pine chips, a pretty straightforward malty brown ale underneath with molasses and dark fruit. Mouth is full and chocolatey upfront, vinous, marsala, berry, milky, dusty cocoa and a touch of oak. Powdery milky end with a touch of vinous warm sweet alcohol like sherry. Not the best abstrakt, but a good experiment. Doesn’t take what it could from the wine barrel, considering the current spirit barrel zeitgeist.
