2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
375ml bottle. Pours an opaque deep chestnut, bordering on black, with a tiny light beige head, which neither lasts well nor leaves any lacing to speak of. Rye bread and biscuit malt notes, slightly musty red wine and very mild floral hops make up the aroma. A touch of sweet red wine introduces it, giving way to moderate fruity, spicy hops. The wine comes in strongly at the mid-palate, which is dominated by its slightly musty sweetness, although a touch of rye bread malt does come through. Charry oak leads into an oaked red wine finish, which leaves a slight alcoholic aftertaste. This is not BrewDog’s best effort. It lacks the hops presence implied by the "imperial brown ale" styling, and is dominated by the musty sweetness of the wine, making for a fairly messy beer.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Bottle I ordered from Connect. 33cL, 11.5%. Pours an opaque dark reddish brown color, almost black. Very little white head that bubbles away quickly. Nice aroma of oak, licorice, alcohol, roasted malts, raisin. Smooth mouthfeel, taste of oak, licorice, black currant, coffee, medium alcohol warmth on the palate, full bodied, lingering sweetness. Love the colour and depth that these Malaga casks have brought to this brew. Simply fantastic. Not meaning to throw out 5s like crazy, but I can’t deny this beer is one of excellence.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
37.5 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK, via Brewdog online store. Deep brown, almost an amber hue, thick foamy head that settles to a beige rim. Resinous liquorice aroma, slightly inky, with a rum-like background. Very sweet, some of the alcohol coming through on the first sip, then a long bright hoppiness. Oak depth builds with a long mouth filling alcohol finish.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This one is definitely a sipper, strong stuff. Thick and dark, almost oily.
It barely made a hiss when opened but had the perfect amount of carbonation. Tons of dark fruits, raisins and molasses in the nose and mouth. Maybe a slight woody aftertaste? however quickly overshadowed by the other much stronger flavors. Don’t know if I’d call this an Imperial Brown Ale, to me it tasted more like an english barley wine/wee heavy hybrid.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle in Brewdog Glasgow. One of the strangest really good beers I’ve had. A deep brown pour, tan head quickly disipates. I get the same warm red fruits and leather I might expect from the red wine, but it’s sweeter and even chocolatey compared to what I anticipated. In the mouth it’s warming and woody, bitter and malty. Finish is comfortingly long and warm. The sweetness comes through late and the fruit makes a come-back. Amazingly complex and enjoyable.
