COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The beer is an 11.5% Imperial Brown Ale which we have aged in amazing Spanish sweet red barrels from Malaga. Stewart Bowman, our Head Brewer, devised an Imperial Brown Ale designed to perfectly complement the wine flavours and extract maximum depth and character from the giant barrels. We also felt the Imperial Brown Ale was ideally suited to be barrel aged and as well as the infusion of the Malaga wine character will also benefit added complexity and maturity from the time in oak.

Pours dark brown, almost black with a small head and steady carbonation. Rich caramel & chocolate malt with berries, dates & grape fruity flavours, with a creamy texture as it goes down. Very smooth and the alcohol is very well hidden. Really good beer.

Pours deep dark brown and produces a thick brown head. The nose is very fruity, blueberry, cherry, grapes, apples, some cotton candy, booze, maple syrup and unfortunately, while not overwhelming, turpentine. The taste is heavy sweet with minimal bitterness. The end comes out a little more bitter. The texture is smooth and creamy, the body is heavy and the finish is long. Not my favorite of the abstrakt series, but not bad.

375ml corked bottle pours a deep amber brown color with a small light beige head that leaves some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark fruits (possibly grapes/raisins/dates) with some roasted grains and mild oak. Taste is dominated by a dark fruity sweetness with a light roast bitterness and a mild alcohol burn in the finish. A very interesting and unique brew that was very much enjoyed.

[375ml bottle, Appellation Wines, Edinburgh] Left for 6-8 months in sweet, sherry-like red wine casks, produces a nose that is just incredible – soft, sweet, juicy and with a background hum of alcohol. Extremely porty, in every respect. Apparently, the brown ale was brewed to be very bitter to compensate for the expected sweet pickup – and as a result, everything has married together beautifully. An Abstrakt almost on a par with AB:04 [18022013]

Pours cloudy dark caramel with a small beige head. Stewed orange and mashed bananas on the nose says Lewis. Taste is a very well rounded sweet toffee taste with a slightly fruity finish. Nice long finish. Very good.

Bottle from brewdog.com. Dark cola brown color with small beige head. Aroma of dark malt, raisins, dark berries, syrup, ash, wood. Taste, dark malt, syrup, caramel, dates, hints of chocolate and coffee, wood, vinous notes. Long bitter finish. Alcohol is dangerously hidden. Nice, complex beer.

Pours a cloudy dark brown colour with a one inch white head. Aroma of cherries, burnt wood, leather, with a supprisingly small alcohol stinch. Flavour is red fruits, syrup, wet wood with a long, dry aftertaste. Medium body, with a super smooth mothfeel. This beer is just fantastic in my opinion. Really good balance, a lovely taste and quite supprisingly easy to drink. Awesome!

Bottle, shared with Foffern. Pours a jet black body with a big creamy light beige head retention, presenting itself beautifully in my tulip glass. Nose is port-like alcohol-wooden notes (the barrel aging has definitely put its mark on this beverage), nuts, almonds, raisins, sweet marzipan, hints of licorice and candi sugar. Taste is sweet-salty licorice tones, deep malts, wood, alcohol, raisins, hints of chocolate and dried dark fruits in the back. Nice. Full body, medium to soft carbonation. A very nice and sweet dark ale, worthy of a slot in the so far damn impressive Abstrakt series.

Bottle shared with ClubGonzo. The colour is deep reddish brown, and with a small compact light beige head. I find cognaq in the aroma along with leather, alcohol, Dry Martini, sweet cherries and marzipan, oak and coffee. The party continues in mouth with leather, oak, salt licorice, sweet nuts, chocolate truffles, port and liquor. Rich and sticky mouthfeel, and a light bitterness. A complex and explosive ale in both aroma and taste.
