4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Medium beige head. Opaque black body goes deep dark hazy brown
at edge. Herbal dried fruit aroma with meaty cloves notes.
Dry-sweet intensely spicy cardamom and cinnamon taste with
chocolatey laquer and tropical wood notes. Full-bodied. Soft,
yet quite hot and spicy mouthfeel. Dry-sweetish spicy cardamom
and lacquer aftertaste with alcoholic cardamom, cloves and
lavender notes. Nice. Highly drinkable, harmonic, and
interesting, even if it is a bit high in alcohol. (0.375l
bottle, wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
[375ml bottle, Appellation Wines, Edinburgh] As a style, ’black barley wine’ sounds completely ridiculous, but the infusion of ginger, chipotle and raspberries make it even more outré. This, however, results in a fantastic aroma – ageing these AB releases doesn’t half produce some fantastic combinations. Ginger and earthy chilli smoke. Tastewise, it was exactly like eating a chocolate-covered piece of candied ginger. A delight

from Erzbierschof - black beer under an elusive dark beige foam; aroma of roasted malts, nougat and alcohol; notes of fruity hops; thick and full-bodied, pretty sweet, moderate carbonation and very tasty; some late and solid bitterness; long aftertaste of ashes, nuts and with a warming alcohol touch

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Nose is somewhere between nice ginger and shoe polish. Pleasant is you leave it alone. Pours fairly dark with a small beige head. Very sweet with some herbal hints. Very unbalanced. Finish is bitter greens and not so pleasant

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Medium head .Smells more ginger than i tastes. I was looking forward to a beer with some spicy ginger notes, but I was let down on the first sip. Still, after a while, this becomes a pretty good beer. Dark, spicy and heavy barley wine with a hint of citrus fruits.

Har varit jätte uppspelt över denna ölen. Haft den ett tag och gått och sneglat på den varje dag. Söt, alkohol och rätt tjock.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark brown liquid with a small white head. Aroma is roasty and caramelly. Taste is alot of ginger, and not much else. Feels like I am in a sushibar. Worst abstrakt so far in my opinion. (Tried 6-11)

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
My first abstrakt. Pours a dark brown colour with a white head. funky aroma of ginger, malts, spruce and some roastedness. Flavour is really interesting; ginger is really present, maybe a bit too much, there is a quiet notable leather and licorice taste, together with wet grass, coffee and dough. A bit too thin on the palate in my opinion, which really supprised me. Low carbonation, and a smooth mouthfeel. It really changes character when it warms up a bit, much more round taste and better balance. I did know this was a hate/love beer. For me it was hate at first, but that slowly went over to the other side after some sips.
