A salt caramel popcorn imperial ale. Bourbon and rum barrel aged, this 12.8% ale has complex and twisting flavours. Bitter caramel, wood, smoke, spice, treacle and vanilla are all present and intertwine against a smooth and lightly chewy mouthfeel. The salt caramel popcorn lends subtle hints of a smoky brininess.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2014 From bottle I think at Camden Brewdog. Served in their trademark teku glass. Hazy dirty brown colour, small white head doesn’t endure long. Aroma - lots of sherry, sour, seaweed, whisky. Body is medium to light, smooth. Taste - sweet toffee malts, rum comes through noticeably, quite oxidised, old ale, no alcohol comes through, finishes short and abrupt with no bitterness. I can see the popcorn analogy in the aroma a little bit because there is some salinity and sweetness, but popcorn doesn’t really come out in the flavour. Comparable to Kuhnhenn 4D, Thomas Hardys, Fullers Vintage. Not bad.

Bottle. Nice dark brown color with very short lasting white head. Wonderful aroma of caramel some dried fruits. Taste is caramel with biscuits and some hints of salt and some alcohol. Aftertaste is also caramel with some alcohol. Liked this but the alcohol should have been hidden a little bit more. I think this would age very well.

Bottle. Dark amber-chestnut, clear. Dark nutty, slight oaky, soft cream-tarry, nose. Dark fruityness, plummy dry fruit cake, some dark spices. Thick body, but quite alright- isn’t overly sticky or anything, even though there’s a bunch of sweet malty flavours. Soft, with bourbony vanilla, salty dark buttery pudding. A bit short in the finish. Nice drink. There’s definitely a lot of flavours, pleasantly softly mixed together. Forgot about the popcorns, but re-reading the description; sure, there’s some of that in the aroma, and I could contribute some of the buttery pudding to those as well. Very nice as an experience, but not one of the best AB’s.

Keg @ BrewDog. Dark reddish brown, not much head. Strong sweet syrupy alcohol aroma. Sweet cough mixture & cake flavour. Sweet alcohol aftertaste. What I have come to expect from an Abstrakt beer. Not my sort of thing.

Bottle, 03/01/2014. Pours dark brown, slight ruby tint, thin white head fades relatively quickly, medium ring of lacing around the glass. Aroma is chewy, rich toffee and vanilla, digging a bit deeper comes the sweet caramel popcorn, fruity rum, wood, darker chocolate roast. Taste is sweet caramel, butterscotch, subtle salty character with dark fruity malts, sweet bourbon with prominent vanilla, lingering spiciness, alcohol. Thick, round body. Tasty, good entry in the series.

Tap at BrewDog Bristol. Strong sherry like caramel aroma. I get the saltiness which does lend a savoury flavour to this meal of a beer. Lightly burnt Toffee caramel flavour. High quality but lacks the complexity in extra flavour I have come to expect from cutting edge beers

375ml bottle, pours dark brown with a tiny head, sweet caramel, toffee malt texture, with fruitiness coming through with raisin, damson and blueberry. Little alcohol burn for the abv. Tastes like a very high quality barley wine, didn’t get much popcorn though! Excellent

Bottle from BD Online store. It pours deep brown with a short-lived beige head. The nose is uncannily like popcorn..... as well as earth, bourbon, wood, meatiness, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and light spice. The taste is smooth, sweet caramel, butterscotch, dark fruits, berry, vinous, rum, wood, light warmth, some bitterness and a touch of spice with a warming finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Well realized. You really do get this Butterkist Toffee Popcorn. Fun and rather drinkable stuff.
