{thoughts} Refreshingly roasty: an exposé on how a beer can be ’dark’ and nimble at the same time.

{elements} Black hue with a tight, tan foam. Smoky and roasty with a dash of prunes. Moderately sweet, low acidity, low bitterness; flavors of chocolate, coffee and cloves draw out into a spicy finish. Medium-light carbonation, silky texture, medium body. 25 cl draft @ O’Hara’s.

Pours a dark brown with a really thin beige head that leaves some lacing. Nose is of caramel, fruits and roasted malt. This isn’t a roast bomb, it’s more a background noise than anything, at least judging from the aroma. Vanilla is definitely in there also but it is well controlled. Taste is lightly sweet, not really bitter. Flavors revolve around roasted malt and this roasted malt also bring a slight acidity to the game. No ash but coming quite close I think. Light chocolate. Finish has a bit of astringency also from the roasted malt. Body is medium, carbonation moderate and fine. All in all a nice porter, with a few tweaks it could be world class I think.

Noire avec des reflets rubis, assez plate, peu de mousse. Nez de cacao, café, pruneaux. En bouche, sur le cacao, prune et arrière bouche de vanille. Amertume moyenne. Bonne porter mais pas exceptionnelle.

A nice porter, but in a back to back sampling the weaker of the options we tried. Voluptuous yet pert.

Vue en bouteille de 33cl. Belle couleur. Peu de mousse. Classique Proter mais super bien faite comme d'habitude chez Brewdog.

Bottle. Dark brown with brown head. Aroma of reisins and dark chocolate. Tastes sweet, a little bit sour. Body is way to light. At least for a beer drinker that’s used to Polish Baltic Porters. Carbonation is low, which is good. Drinkable, but leaves unsatisfied.

What he said…a decent enough porter but not outstanding. I haven’t added enough characters for my rating so you could say - like the beer - it lacks character(s).

Bottle - Very Dark Brown, almost Black, in colour. Very Malty; roasty/burnt malts, coffee, some chocolate, hint of vanilla. Fruity; dark fruits. Hoppy; distinct hop bitterness; spicy grassy hops. Intense burnt malty taste with noticeable hop bitterness. Nice Porter!
